Accommodation in Como
Como is situated on the banks of the Georges River. Impressive views and secluded picnic spots shape the character of the area. If you’re looking for a hotel in Como, you can plan your trip around whether you’d rather focus on riverside scenery, outdoor paths or local history. The Como Pleasure Grounds, a heritage trail and a range of activities each offer something different.
Riverside and Como Pleasure Grounds
The Como Pleasure Grounds are located by the water. The grounds include native gardens, barbecue areas, tables, seating areas and a playground. There’s a bike track and a walking loop for getting active. The park offers a range of options: you can use one of the paths or relax at the tables and seating areas. If the playground is important to your plans, check its current status before your visit, as works may affect its availability.
The views of the Georges River and the secluded picnic spots give an outdoor stay a different focus from the paths and facilities at the Pleasure Grounds. When planning, consider whether you’d rather spend time by the water or make use of what the park has to offer.
Stories of the Como Heritage and Environment Trail
The Como Heritage and Environment Trail features eight interpretive stories about the history and development of the Como Pleasure Grounds, the Rail Bridge and Station, the Como Hotel and Scylla Bay Oval. Two more stories cover the local Dharawal people and refer to the Georges and Woronora rivers. The loop is located in Como. The trail therefore features stories about the development of named places as well as Dharawal stories connected to two rivers—two different perspectives on local history and culture.
Paths, baths and seasonal planning
An easy jogging route crosses the Como Bridge and continues to Oatley. This makes it different from the loop in the Como Pleasure Grounds: the jogging route has a destination outside Como, while the park offers a loop. Which option best suits your plans depends on whether you’d prefer a run to Oatley or a circuit in the Pleasure Grounds.
Be sure to distinguish between the baths: dogs are prohibited at the Como Tidal Baths at all times. Check the council’s notices before your trip for any changes to the rules. The public baths at the Como Swimming Complex are free and open only in summer. If you’re planning to visit this seasonal facility, check its current operating status before you go.
Market and other possible experiences
The Como Riverview Market is held on the second Sunday of the month at Como Public School. It features food and coffee stalls, as well as handmade homewares, books, flowers and jewellery. Dates and offerings may change, so confirm both before visiting. This lets you include the market in your travel plans without assuming a particular date or that the offerings will remain unchanged.
Como Marina lists fishing, sightseeing, picnics and celebrations as possible experiences. If you’re planning to do any of these, check the current options directly with the operator. Along with the market, baths and paths, Como offers a range of themes to consider when planning; choose what matters most for your stay.
