Châu Thành District: Historical Memorials and Places of Remembrance
Accommodation in Châu Thành District
The historical memorials in Châu Thành District relate to different events, people, and forms of remembrance. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between these themes and the locations of each site. This will help you first decide which historical focus interests you, then search specifically for hotels in Châu Thành District.
Historical Sites and Their Significance
The Châu Thành Party Committee base is in Trường Hamlet, in Hảo Đước Commune. In 1999, it was recognized as a provincial historical and cultural monument. It is significant for scientific research, military history studies, and the promotion of revolutionary traditions. The youth union of Châu Thành District also worked to introduce sites like these: in 2024, it carried out a QR code project for this purpose. As part of the initiative, 16 historical and cultural sites were digitized and fitted with QR codes.
A different historical connection defines the Đồng Khởi Tua Hai Memorial. It commemorates the victory at Tua Hai on January 26, 1960, which is described as the starting point of the armed Đồng Khởi movement in southeastern Vietnam. The memorial is in Tua Hai Hamlet, in Đồng Khởi Commune, on National Highway 22B, 7 km northwest of Tây Ninh City. The event and its historical context distinguish this place of remembrance from sites dedicated to an individual or a group of fallen soldiers.
The Vành đai diệt Mỹ – Trảng Lớn Memorial is also among the district’s historical sites. It was designated a national historical monument in 2013; the protected area covers 10,426.9 m². At the Hoàng Lê Kha Memorial, remembrance is linked to a specific person and place: Hoàng Lê Kha was executed at the present-day site on March 12, 1960. The memorial was built there in 1995 and designated a provincial historical and cultural monument in 2007. It is on the grounds of Hoàng Lê Kha Primary School in Suối Muồn Hamlet, in Thái Bình Commune.
Comparing Places of Remembrance
The memorial in Thanh Phước commemorates 21 soldiers from Regiment 2 of Division 9 who died in 1968 in a battle against the US 25th Division. Families of fallen soldiers, organizations, and groups visit the site for visits and commemorative activities. These sites reflect different scales of remembrance: Tua Hai represents an event and its significance to a movement, Hoàng Lê Kha commemorates an individual, and Thanh Phước remembers a group of soldiers. This comparison can help you choose a historical focus for your trip.
Sivôtha and Giồng Nần
At Sivôtha, historical use and surviving features of the terrain come together. The base of Overseas Unit I Sivôtha served as a rear base and as a place for learning and training for independently deployed armed work teams; in 1999, it was designated a provincial historical and cultural monument. The Sivôtha base is in Lưu Văn Vẳng Hamlet, in Hòa Hội Commune. A regenerating forest with several layers of trees remains at the site. Surviving traces include bomb craters, a well, and the foundation of a kitchen. Trenches and fortifications have partly eroded. The site thus brings together its historical function and the surviving features of the terrain.
Giồng Nần is described as the first Party base in Tây Ninh Province. The historical memorial is named Khu lưu niệm cơ sở Đảng đầu tiên tỉnh Tây Ninh tại Giồng Nần. It is at the Đường Xuồng landing in Long Đại Hamlet, in Long Vĩnh Commune. From Tây Ninh, the route follows Provincial Road 786, crosses the Gò Chai Bridge, then continues along a local paved road to Rạch Đường Xuồng. Visitors can also reach the memorial by boat from Bến Đình, Trường Tây, via Rạch Giồng Nần. If you are considering traveling by boat, check the current service in advance.
