The Mae La is a natural waterway in Sing Buri Province. It flows through the districts of In Buri, Bang Rachan and Mueang Sing Buri. Temples, historic memorial sites, museums and regional traditions offer additional points of interest on a trip through the province. You can shape your time around a range of interests, perhaps taking in the landscape, visiting historic sites or exploring collections that bring Sing Buri’s past and culture to life.

River Landscapes and Places to Relax

Mae La Maha Rachanuson Park is in Thap Ya, extends across the districts of In Buri and Bang Rachan, and is located on the banks of the Lak Rong River. Its setting links a named attraction with a particular river landscape. Another place to visit for public recreation is Khu Khai Burma, which was converted into a public park for local residents. The two places represent different aspects of getting to know Sing Buri: one is set beside a river, while the other is used as a park.

Nature and archaeology enthusiasts will also find plenty to explore. Muang Boran Ban Khu Mueang offers a nature trail and a forest walk where visitors can see medicinal plants and rare tree species. If you plan a visit, check in advance to confirm whether it is currently operating. The combination of a nature trail and forest walk gives this place a different focus from the historic temples and museums.

Temples, Monuments and History

Wat Na Phra That has a prang about eight wah high, with additions in the early Ayutthaya style. The temple was registered as an ancient monument on 8 March 2478 BE. Its recorded height and architectural additions make the prang a specific point of interest for anyone who pays attention to architecture when visiting a temple.

Wat Pho Kao Ton is associated with the history of the Bang Rachan resistance. In 2308 BE, the temple served as a base for villagers from Bang Rachan in their resistance against the Burmese. Wat Pho Kao Ton was registered as an ancient monument in 2498 BE. The Monument to the Heroes of Bang Rachan depicts the camp’s eleven leaders as sculptures. Together, these places offer different connections to the past: the base used at the time, its later registration as an ancient monument, and the sculptural depiction of the leaders.

Khu Khai Burma also has a historical interpretation: it is thought to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. According to historical evidence, the Burmese established it in 2127 BE as a camp for a campaign against Ayutthaya. Another religious highlight is Wat Phra Non Chakkrasi Worawihan, with a revered reclining Buddha statue in the Sukhothai style, almost 46 metres long.

Museums and Archaeological Collections

The Inburi National Museum is located at Wat Bot temple. Its collection includes the palanquin of King Rama V, large shadow-puppet figures, various ecclesiastical fans, a green-stone Buddha statue and an antique sugarcane press. It also features Dvaravati artefacts from Khu Mueang and products from the Mae Nam Noi pottery kilns. The varied objects offer several ways to explore the region’s history and material heritage, from religious items and shadow puppetry to ceramics and traditional production.

The Museum of the Ancient City of Khu Mueang is in Huai Chan, in In Buri District. Visitors can see and study archaeological sites, ancient monuments and archaeological objects there. While the Inburi National Museum displays a variety of collection items, the Khu Mueang Museum focuses on archaeological sites and finds. Wat Phikun Thong also houses a museum dedicated to Luang Pho Phae. It presents his life story and monastic objects from the past to the present.

Activities, Festivals and Travel Planning

Rai Saen Somboon is an agricultural attraction offering activities such as rowing to collect lotus flowers, planting rice, catching shrimp and fishing. As operations may change, check in advance whether these activities will be available during your visit. A regular songthaew service runs between Sing Buri and Wat Phikun Thong. Check the service locally again before travelling.

Recurring events include Bang Rachan Heroes’ Day, held every year from 4 to 6 February at the Monument to the Heroes of Bang Rachan and in Bang Rachan Camp Park. Sing Buri’s traditional longboat race takes place every September on the Chao Phraya and Noi rivers. For both events, it is advisable to check the current programme before travelling.

Regional cuisine is another reason to take an interest in Sing Buri. Mae La snakehead fish is considered a local speciality and is associated with Sing Buri’s Fish and Regional Specialties Festival. If the festival is a reason for your trip, check the dates in advance. This makes it easier to plan visits to historic sites, museum outings and recurring events separately.
