When planning a stay in Kairakkum, you can consider the waterside setting, parks and urban history as different areas of focus. This helps you first decide whether boat trips, cultural and recreational facilities, or the history of Guliston should be at the center of your visit.

Qayroqqum Reservoir and Getting There

The Qayroqqum Reservoir is also known as the “Tajik Sea” and is one of the largest artificial bodies of water in Central Asia. Boat trips are offered on the reservoir. If you want to make a trip part of your plans, confirm that it is operating locally. The reservoir can be reached from Khujand by local transport or taxi. Check current transport options before you set off so you can plan your journey using one of the options mentioned.

“Tajik Sea” is another name for the same reservoir. A park described as being on the shore of the Tajik Sea is therefore on the shore of the Qayroqqum Reservoir.

Parks and Cultural Sites

Temurmalik Culture and Recreation Park is located on the shore of the Tajik Sea, and a monument to Temurmalik stands there. More than two kilometers of roads were paved in the park, and a parking lot was built. A 2022 reconstruction report also mentions three fountains, a waterfall and a children’s pool. If any of these features are important to your plans, check their current condition before visiting.

The Culture and Recreation Park marking the 24th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence opened in 2015 in Qayroqqum, on the shore of the Tajik Sea. Its name refers to the independence anniversary, while 2015 marks the year the park opened.

Guliston’s Urban History

A description of the Guliston City Museum published in September 2025 mentions exhibits on the history of the city and its settlements, as well as on businesses, institutions and organizations. Its scope thus ranges from the history of settlements to institutions in city life. Guliston City Day has been celebrated on September 15 since 2016. If your trip is timed to coincide with this date, check the event program in advance. The museum focuses on thematic insights into the city and its settlements; City Day gives your travel plans a specific date to work around.

Health Resort and Recreation Bases

Bahoriston Health Resort is located on the shore of the Qayroqqum Reservoir. It offers recreation and health services to citizens of Tajikistan and international guests. The resort uses therapeutic mud from Lakes Aksikon and Saki, as well as sulfide water, for its treatments. These treatments offer a different focus from boat trips or visits to parks. Medical services may change; confirm specific offerings directly with the resort before your trip.

Several recreation bases are located on the shore of the Qayroqqum Reservoir in Guliston, including the “Qayrakum” recreation home and a tourist base. Individual facilities may change; if you plan to visit a particular base, check its current offerings in advance.
