Gonawala: Aquariums, Birds and River Safari

Water World in Gonawala combines animal- and water-themed attractions with a precision shooting activity. Aquariums and aquatic habitats

Water World’s aquarium offers several ways to see marine life. The Sea World section includes reef aquariums. Visitors can also observe sharks, rays and schools of fish in the walk-through Sea Tunnel. The formats differ: the reef aquariums focus on marine life presented in an aquarium setting, while the Sea Tunnel offers a walk through a tunnel where the animals mentioned above can be seen. This can help you decide which type of viewing interests you most.

According to the operator, the Rain Forest section is among the additions for 2025 and focuses on Sri Lanka’s freshwater ecosystems. Its presentation includes natural cascades and aquatic habitats. Marine Jewels has a different focus: the section features smaller, detailed exhibits with colorful fish, starfish and other marine life. This means one side focuses on freshwater ecosystems and their habitats, while the other offers smaller displays of individual marine creatures. The operator lists Sea World, Rain Forest and Marine Jewels as additions for 2025.

Bird experiences and the River Safari ride

At the Water World Bird Park in Gonawala, visitors can feed Sun Conures a special seed mix. This is a specific activity involving birds and differs from observing animals in the aquariums. If you are interested in birds, you can distinguish this feeding activity from the exhibit areas featuring marine and freshwater life.

Another bird-related option is the River Safari ride. Described as an aviary-themed ride, it travels through calm waters surrounded by lush vegetation, exotic birds and river animals. Unlike the feeding activity, the focus here is on the ride through the described surroundings. This offers two distinct experiences: interacting with Sun Conures while feeding them, and taking a ride where birds, river animals and vegetation are part of the setting.

A different kind of activity

The Shooter’s Gallery adds a precision shooting activity to the range of options. It offers a different experience from the areas focused on marine life, freshwater ecosystems or birds.
