The destinations below differ in subject matter and historical period.

Nature and Cultural Heritage Around Chomakgol

Surisan extends across parts of Anyang, Ansan and Gunpo-si and was designated a provincial park on July 16, 2009. In Gunpo-si, Chomakgol Ecological Park combines the natural surroundings of Surisan with cultural heritage from the Joseon period. The park is connected to Surisan Provincial Park and Cheoljjuk Park, forming an important ecological green corridor in Gunpo-si.

The landmark of Chomakgol Ecological Park, Chomak Dongcheon, recreates Byeongpung Rock and Kal Rock, two rocks symbolic of Surisan. The wildflower garden showcases restored wildflowers native to the Surisan area. Through hands-on programs and play facilities, the Chomakgol Ecological Park Ecology Exhibition Center presents information about nature, animals and plants. Program availability may vary.

Banwol Lake and Trails

Banwol Lake in Dundae-dong, Gunpo-si, was completed in 1957. Its circular trail is 3.4 km long and connects Surisan with Daeya Lake. Historical Sites

The old Park family house in Dundae-dong was the residence of Park Yong-deok, who led rural enlightenment work in the Gunpo area during the 1930s. The house was designated local cultural heritage by Gunpo-si on November 27, 2019. The Joseon white porcelain kiln site represents a different historical period: it is regarded as an important regional kiln heritage site dating from the late 15th to the early 16th century.

Astronomy and Seasonal Events

Nuri Observatory, operated by the city of Gunpo, is located in Daeya Library and serves as a city-run learning center for astronomy and space. The library’s rooftop garden has an astronomical observation room and a planetarium; on the fourth floor are an astronomy and space experience center and a 4D theater. As operating details may change, check the latest information before visiting.

The Gunpo Azalea Festival is a spring flower festival held in the Azalea Hill and Azalea Park area. The program includes performances, hands-on activities and food services, and residents and visitors can take part together. Events are seasonal. Check whether the festival is taking place during your dates before planning your trip.
