A trip to Nonsan-si can focus on a range of themes: waterside and mountain landscapes, places associated with the history of education, and seasonal experiences. If you are looking for a hotel, you can base your choice on the sights that interest you most.

Tapjeongho and Landscapes

Tapjeongho in Nonsan-si is described as Chungcheongnam-do’s second-largest lake. Clear water and sunsets shape its landscape. The 600-meter-long Tapjeongho Suspension Bridge also offers a distinctive view over the water: it is a pedestrian bridge above the water, considered the largest of its kind in Asia and a landmark of Nonsan. Its design is described as featuring nighttime scenery, lighting, and a skywalk.

Another scenic highlight is in the Nonsan area of Daedunsan: Surak Valley and Surak Waterfall are known for their clear water and beautiful scenery. Together with Tapjeongho, they offer a contrast between lake and mountain landscapes, though the two places do not offer the same kind of nature experience.

Cultural History in Nonsan-si

Donam Seowon is a historic Confucian academy in Yeonsan-myeon, Nonsan-si. It honors the scholarly work of Sagye Kim Jang-saeng and his students, and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019. The academy offers insight into an educational tradition connected to a specific historical figure and his circle.

The Gwanchoksa Temple in Gwanchok-dong is home to a standing stone statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva, designated a National Treasure of Korea. Ssanggyesa Temple stands at the foot of Bulmyeongsan. Its Daeungjeon, with its ornate floral-pattern lattice windows, is designated Treasure No. 408. Both sites combine religious architecture with designated cultural properties, but the monuments highlighted at each are different.

Jonghakdang also tells a story of educational history: Yun Sun-geo founded the institution in 1643 for the children of his clan. Children from the clan and related families lived there together and devoted themselves to study. In Ganggyeong, the modern history street brings together modern buildings and historic sites; it is considered a cultural experience area.

Experiences and Seasonal Trip Planning

Nonsan Sunshine Land offers military-themed experiences such as VR, survival games, indoor and simulation shooting, as well as a visit to the 1950 Romantic Studio. The Baekje Military Museum has a different focus: its facilities include exhibition halls, the Hoguk Hall, a special exhibition hall, and an information and research room. It also features a 4D theater, hands-on activities such as archery and horseback riding, and an outdoor area that is open year-round.

Two seasonal highlights fall around April. At the Nonsan Strawberry Festival, held annually around this time, visitors can pick strawberries in the fields; the exact festival dates vary and should be checked before traveling. Around April, cherry blossoms form a tunnel along the road between Nonsan-si and Gwanchoksa Temple. Many people use the route as a walking path. This makes it possible to distinguish seasonal blossoms from a festival visit that includes strawberry picking.

Market Visit and Hotel Search

Nonsan Hwaoji Jungang Market is located in Daegyo-dong and has a covered arcade, shopping opportunities, and its own parking lot. As amenities may change, it is advisable to check before visiting.
