Biliran offers natural and cultural attractions to suit different travel interests. Waterfalls, forest trails, and parks sit alongside historic sites and the Ibid Festival. The attractions are located across several municipalities and barangays on the island. When choosing individual stops, you can consider both their locations and your interest in scenery, hiking trails, or history.

Waterfalls with varied scenery

The Ulan-Ulan Falls in Almeria feature powerful cascades and a misty atmosphere. The Recoletos Falls are known for gentle cascades and clear natural pools; they are set in peaceful surroundings with lush vegetation and unique rock formations. The Ginbusagan Falls in the municipality of Biliran follow a multi-tiered course against a rugged, green landscape. In Cabucgayan, the Kasabangan Falls are known for their clear, cool water and peaceful atmosphere. The Casiawan Falls there also have clear pools and peaceful surroundings. The waterfalls therefore differ in their scenery, from powerful cascades and mist to gentle cascades, tiers, and clear pools.

Hiking trails and nature paths

A hike along scenic forest trails leads to the Bagongbong Falls in Almeria. The route to the Ginbusagan Falls runs through lush trails and offers hikers a peaceful setting. At the Recoletos Falls, you can explore the surrounding trails; scenic paths through dense tropical vegetation lead to the Casiawan Falls. The routes described offer different experiences, from forest trails to approaches covered in tropical vegetation. Trail conditions may change after severe weather; check them before hiking to these waterfalls.

Parks for strolling, swimming, and relaxing

The Kasabangan Falls Leisure Park in Cabucgayan offers scenic picnic spots and swimming areas. At the Tinago Eco-Tourism Park in Caibiran, visitors can enjoy peaceful walking paths, viewpoints, and scenic trails along the river. The two parks therefore offer different experiences: picnicking and swimming at the Kasabangan Falls Leisure Park, and walks, views, and riverside trails at the Tinago Eco-Tourism Park.

Culture and history on Biliran

The Nasunugan Ruins in Barangay San Roque near Biliran town are a reconstruction of an old structure. Early settlers used it as a watchtower against Moro raids between 1765 and 1774. The Padre Gaspar site is associated with the earliest recorded settlement on Biliran Island. These are two distinct historical connections: the watchtower function of a reconstructed structure during a specific period, and a site associated with an early settlement.

The Ibid Festival in Caibiran is celebrated on July 25, at the same time as the town fiesta. If you want to include the festival in your travel plans, check the date before your trip. This lets you take the stated festival date into account without basing your plans solely on a date.

Getting a sense of locations and travel times

The Mainit Hot Spring is in Barangay Villavicenta, about 25 minutes from Caibiran and an hour from Naval. These travel times may vary depending on road conditions. If the hot spring is a key part of your plans, allow for possible variations when planning your day and check the travel time in advance.
