Discover Purba Singhbhum: Nature, Temples and Wildlife
Accommodation in Purba Singhbhum
Purba Singhbhum offers a range of experiences for your trip: forests and wildlife, lakes, outdoor recreation in green spaces, and religious sites with their own traditions. This lets you tailor your focus on nature experiences, time outdoors and culture to your interests.
Forests, Wildlife and Activities
Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary covers 193 km² of forest in the East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand. It is home to a significant population of Indian elephants. Trekking and climbing are offered in the Dalma Hills as activities for adventure enthusiasts. Wildlife and exercise are thus distinct ways to experience nature.
Lakes with Different Things to Do
Dimna Lake is located in the Boram block. Boating is available on the lake. If you plan this activity, check current availability before your visit.
Burudi Lake is a major natural attraction in the Ghatshila subdivision of East Singhbhum district. Visitors can rent pedal boats or rowing boats there; check availability on site. Birdwatching at Burudi Lake is especially popular during migration seasons. The time of year is therefore another point to consider when comparing the lakes: birdwatching at Burudi is especially popular during migration seasons, while boating is available at Dimna.
Outdoor Recreation and Wildlife Experiences
Jubilee Park is a great place for picnics, outdoor activities and games, and relaxing with friends and family. The park is also popular with joggers and cyclists. It offers both social recreation and opportunities to get active.
Tata Steel Zoological Park is open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm and is closed on Mondays. Check the opening hours again before you travel. The grounds include a circular road around the lake, a well-laid-out path for visitors to observe the animals, and other services.
One field excursion on offer combines a guided zoo visit with a talk with a keeper at the butterfly enclosure, as well as a hands-on learning activity. If you would like to include this program in your plans, ask about booking and availability in advance. This format has a different focus from a visit mainly intended to explore the grounds and their circular route.
Temples and Religious Traditions
Rankini Temple is located in Rohinibera village in the Potka block and is also known as Kapadgadi Ghat. It is recommended as a place to visit for tourists on their way to Ghatshila. According to local tradition, the stone idol in the temple is considered an incarnation of the goddess Kali.
Baba Bhooteshwar Mandir, an important shrine for the Bhoktas, is located in Gada village in the Baharagora block. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. The Bhoktas' challenging rituals include inserting nails into their tongues. During the Gajan festival, the mandir has a festive atmosphere.
Sri Sai Temple is dedicated to devotees of Shirdi Sai Baba. The religious associations therefore differ considerably: from the Kali tradition at Rankini Temple, through the Bhoktas' Shiva tradition, to the worship of Shirdi Sai Baba.
