Coimbatore offers a range of things to explore: in the city, automotive and police history sit alongside a botanical garden; in the district, there is also a temple dedicated to Vishnu in Karamadai and Kaviaruvi Falls in the Anaimalai Hills. The locations also differ. If you are planning a hotel stay, first choose the visits that will shape your trip. This will help you distinguish city destinations in Coimbatore from destinations in the district.

Automotive History and Botanical Garden

The Geedee Car Museum in Coimbatore is South India’s only museum of classic automobiles. It displays more than 100 classic cars and technologically significant vehicles from G. D. Naidu’s private collection. The models include the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, the Ford T, the Ambassador and the Reva.

The Geedee Car Museum is scheduled to be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; last entry is at 5:00 p.m. Check the hours before your visit.

The Tamil Nadu Police Museum focuses on different exhibits: uniforms, weapons, investigative tools and memorabilia are on display. It complements the automobile museum with a distinct perspective on police history.

Semmozhi Poonga is a modern botanical garden in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore, covering about 45 acres. The garden is defined by its themed gardens and diverse plant collection, as well as walking paths and recreational facilities for children. In contrast to the museum collections, the focus here is on plants and landscaped garden areas.

Temples and Nature in the District

The Ranganathaswamy Temple, also known as the Karamadai Temple, is located in Karamadai in Coimbatore district and is dedicated to Vishnu. The annual Brahmotsavam offers a point of reference in the calendar: the festival lasts fifteen days and falls in the Tamil month of Maasi, which is from February to March.

Kaviaruvi, also known as Monkey Falls, is in the Anaimalai Hills in Coimbatore district, near the Aliyar Dam on the road between Pollachi and Valparai. Visitors can experience and photograph the waterfall and its scenic surroundings. Here, nature and landscape take centre stage rather than exhibits or garden settings.

Getting There and Choosing a Hotel Location

Broad-gauge trains connect Coimbatore with all parts of India and Tamil Nadu. City buses serve most routes within the city, as well as other towns and villages in and around Coimbatore district. This means there is a distinction between long-distance rail connections and getting around by bus within the city and district.

When choosing your hotel location, make your priority whether the focus is on city destinations or on other places in the district. The location that suits you depends on which of these visits you are planning.
