Una lies on the Swan River, a tributary of the Sutlej. Descendants of Baba Kaladhari still live in Una Fort. Another notable structure is the mausoleum of Bedi Sahib Singh: its golden dome and views across the valley give it a distinctive profile. Alongside these places, temples, shrines and festival traditions shape the district—often with a clear connection to individual villages and landscapes.

River, Ridge and Special Places

Shiv Bari lies near Gagret on the banks of the Swan River. In July and August, thousands of people from the surrounding area visit the Shiva temple there and offer flowers at the Shiva Linga. Solah Singhi Dhar offers another landmark in the landscape of Una district: the ridge rises to more than 1,200 metres. Solah Singhi Fort stands on one of the highest points of the western ridge. Pir Nigaha includes a cave carved from solid rock.

Temples and Religious Traditions

Dhyunsar Mahadev Temple is in the village of Bahi, near Talmehra in Bangana tehsil. Its name is considered a corrupted form of DHAUMYESHWAR SADASHIV TIRATH. A festival is held there on Shivratri: in the presence of a large crowd, the Shiva Linga is bathed in milk and buttermilk as those gathered recite “Om Namah Shivaye”.

Dharamshala Mahanta lies near the shrine of the goddess Chintpurni, about 62 kilometres from Una. The matha was founded by Baba Nakodar Dass during the reign of the Mughal emperor Akbar. Dharamshala Mahanta is known for its murals and wall paintings. The distance is approximate and gives a general sense of the site’s location in relation to Una.

Dera Baba Rudru was founded by the celibate hermit Baba Rudranand. It is in the village of Nari, on the Una-Amb road, near the village of Basal. An Akhand Dhoona established there in 1850 has been burning continuously ever since. A large festival is held at Dera Baba Rudru every year on Kushokpatini Amavasya; a special gathering is also held on every Sankranti.

Festivals and Their Dates

The Chintpurni festival, locally known as Mata Da Mela, is celebrated three times a year: in Chet (March–April), Sawan (July–August) and Asanj (September–October). The tradition dates back to time immemorial. The festival takes place in the village of Chintpurni, on a spur of the ridge of the same name, near the temple of the goddess Bhagwati Chhinmastaka. According to tradition, the goddess is said to have appeared there in astral form in ancient times.

The Hola Mohalla festival is celebrated once a year at Dera Gurbarbhag Singh, on the full-moon day of the Vikrami month of Phalgun, which falls between February and March. Dera Baba Gurbarbhag Singh is a shrine in the village of Mairi in Amb tehsil. A visit is believed to heal people possessed by or affected by evil spirits or other harmful influences. During the festival, visitors pay their respects at the shrine of Gurbarbhag Singh and take a holy bath in Dhaulidhar waterfall, also called Charan Ganga, on the full-moon day. The waterfall flows throughout the year and lies about 1.5 kilometres from the shrine.

Androli, near Gobind Sagar Lake in Bangana tehsil, is also part of Una district. A report dated 24 January 2026 describes water sports available to tourists and locals in Androli. If this activity is important to your plans, check before travelling whether the options are available on your dates.

Travel Planning Information

Una district is connected to the town of Una by broad-gauge rail; the station is called UNA HIMACHAL. Chintpurni is easily accessible by road from all directions. If you are travelling for a specific festival, check the exact date in advance. This allows you to plan around the festival dates without conflating the district’s different places and events.
