Coast and Getting Around

Tithal Beach lies on the Arabian Sea, four kilometres west of the city of Valsad. It is known for its black sand, which characterises this stretch of coast. The beach is about four kilometres from both the Valsad bus station and railway station. If you are planning water rides at Tithal Beach, check their current availability in advance.

Another coastal destination is Nargol Beach in Valsad district, near the border with Maharashtra. This gives you two different geographical reference points for planning your trip: Tithal, west of the city of Valsad, and Nargol, near the border. Which stops you combine depends on your own plans.

Temples and Historic Sites

The Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Valsad is known for its various Shivlings. The temple building has no roof, so the Shivlings are continuously exposed to sunlight. In Tithal, the Swaminarayan Temple is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan and is managed by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS). The Sainath Temple near Tithal Beach was established in 1982 and built of marble.

Parnera Hill is home to historic temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and the goddesses Ambica, Chandica, Navdurga and Kalika. A local Mela is held there every year in October. For planning your timing, this recurring event is a different point of reference from the seasonal recommendations for the waterfalls.

Bagwada, near Udvada, is an ancient Jain pilgrimage site. It is home to Arjangarh Fort and a Jain temple. Mohangadh combines another historic building story with religious practice: its old fort and palace were converted into a Jain ashram, where bhajans are practised. These places complement the temples in Tithal and on Parnera Hill with different religious and historical connections.

Highlands, Forest and Monsoon

Wilson Hills lies at an average elevation of 750 metres in a densely forested region near Pangarbari Wildlife Sanctuary. The area is used for trekking. In Dharampur, Shankar Waterfall offers another connection with nature; the monsoon season is considered the best time to visit. Bilpudi Waterfalls are about ten kilometres from Dharampur and can also be visited during the monsoon. The recommendations differ: the monsoon season is specifically recommended for Shankar, while Bilpudi can be visited during this season.

Dharampur’s natural attractions also include Shrimad Rajchandra Ashram, with its seven themed gardens. The gardens and the forested highlands of Wilson Hills offer different natural highlights; Wilson Hills is also suitable for trekking.

In the wider destination of Valsad

The District Science Centre in Dharampur uses modern scientific instruments to display and demonstrate scientific principles. The centre also has a planetarium. It is open daily from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, including Saturdays and Sundays; it is closed on Diwali and Holi. As opening hours may change, check them before your visit.

The Iranshah Atash Bahram, the Udvada Parsi Fire Temple, is also an important point of interest: it is a major spiritual destination for Zoroastrianism in Valsad district and an important pilgrimage centre for Parsis from India and abroad.

Udvada and Parsi Cuisine

Udvada pairs this religious significance with its own culinary offerings. Local restaurants serve Parsi dishes such as Fried Boi, fish curry, Sali Marghi or Ghosht, Rava Sheera, Dhanshak, macaroons and Nan Khatai. The selection ranges from savoury dishes to sweets; which dishes you find locally depends on the restaurant.

Choosing the Right Hotel Area

Dharampur, with its waterfalls and District Science Centre, offers different options for planning your day than Udvada, with its fire temple and Parsi cuisine.

Prioritise your planned visits and check the distances between them before choosing a hotel location.
