Jashpur district lies in the northeast of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh and borders Jharkhand and Odisha. In the Lower Ghats, waterfalls, rivers and villages of Indigenous communities shape the landscape. When planning your trip, it is worth keeping the different experiences in mind: Kunkuri is associated with a distinctive cathedral, while the cave, waterfalls and forest areas offer other nature and excursion highlights. First consider which places and themes are especially important for your stay.

Cathedral, Shrine and Cave

The cathedral (Mahagirja Ghar) in Kunkuri was founded in 1962 and consecrated on October 27, 1979. These dates mark two different stages in its history. Directly in front of the cathedral, a shrine invites visitors to pray to Mother Mary. This religious site therefore brings together the cathedral’s historical timeline and a specific opportunity for prayer.

The Khuriarani Cave offers a different experience. The Khuria-Rani Temple is located in a hill; the route leads into the hill, and the cave is very dark. Take these conditions into account when planning your visit and check local conditions beforehand. The cave thus combines a religious site with a distinctive, dark setting.

Waterfalls and Forest Landscapes

The Lower Ghats offer a broad impression of the landscape, with waterfalls and rivers. However, different features stand out at individual destinations: Rani-Dah Waterfall has a water pool and natural surroundings, and families use it for picnics. At Danpuri Waterfall, by contrast, the forest setting takes center stage: it is located in the middle of a forest. The base of the waterfall can be reached in two hours; access time may vary depending on the route and conditions.

Badalkhol Abhyaran is located on the Jashpur–Ambikapur road, in the direction of Bagicha block, about 15 km from Bagicha. The climate there is considered particularly suitable for wildlife and birds. The approximate distance helps with orientation; check the route and local conditions before visiting.

Mayali Nature Camp is in the Kunkuri area of Jashpur district. Dense forest surrounds the camp. A report dated October 14, 2025, described the camp as suitable for extended hikes. If you plan to hike there, check current trail conditions beforehand. The nature experiences therefore offer different highlights: water pools and picnics at Rani-Dah, a forest setting at Danpuri, and extended hikes as a described option at Mayali Nature Camp.

Getting There and Planning Your Hotel Stay

The nearest airport to Jashpur is in Ranchi, the capital of the state of Jharkhand. Check flight connections before traveling. National Highways 78 and 43 pass through Jashpur; road numbers and conditions may also change, so it is advisable to check before driving.

If you are looking for a hotel for your trip to Jashpur, first decide which experiences you want to shape your stay: the cathedral and religious sites, the cave, waterfalls, or forests and hikes. Then compare the location of an accommodation with the specific destinations in your plans and take the necessary travel into account. This way, your choice will reflect your itinerary without reducing the different places and experiences to a single focus.
