Discover Zhuhai
Accommodation in Zhuhai
The wider region around Zhuhai offers landscapes, cultural heritage and a variety of major attractions. When looking for a hotel in Zhuhai, you can first decide which of these interests you would like to focus on during your trip.
Islands between rocky landscapes and the coast
On Wailingding Island, Lingding Peak rises above views of the South China Sea. Distinctive rocks and rugged formations shaped by marine erosion add to the landscape. Dong'ao is known for its fine beaches, clear water and dense native forest. Visitors can stroll along a forest boardwalk and cycle on the island's ring road. As route conditions can change, check them before making plans.
Visitors to Dong'ao can also explore the ruins of a fortification. Stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and banana boat rides are offered at Nansha Bay; the availability of these water activities may vary by season. Nature, exercise and historic remains offer different reasons to explore the island, without requiring you to fit all the activities into the same itinerary.
Cultural heritage and historic sites
On Qi'ao Island, the Qi'ao Duanwu Blessing Procession is associated with the Dragon Boat Festival and the four days leading up to it. The local custom includes communal rituals, mutual visits, celebrations and processions. The procession was added to the municipal list of representative intangible cultural heritage elements in 2013 and to the provincial list in 2015. These dates refer to its inclusion in the lists.
The Qi'ao Village History Museum and Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Base opened in the Zhong Clan Ancestral Hall in June 2016. Check the current visitor arrangements before your visit. Other historic and cultural attractions on Qi'ao include the old fortification ruins on Baishi Street, the Tianhou Temple and the exhibition hall in Su Zhaozheng's former residence.
Tangjia is recognized as a historic and cultural town of China. Its old town contains the Ruizhi Ancestral Hall, the Wangci Building and the three temples of Tangjia. Cultural institutions include the Tangjia Village History Museum and the Wuyong Center for the Transmission of Traditional Handweaving. Tangjia thus brings together historic buildings and institutions that share local culture.
The ancient village of Huitong, at the foot of Fenghuangshan in the southwest of the Zhuhai High-Tech District, was founded in 1732. It preserves modern Lingnan-style buildings and traces of historic cultural exchange between China and the West. The village's history museum, housed in the restored large Mo Family Ancestral Hall, presents the village's changes over a century. A small film museum in the renovated Tiaomei Ancestral Hall features exhibitions where visitors can learn about Chinese and international film history. Qi'ao silver shrimp paste is also part of the cultural heritage: it was added to the municipal list of representative intangible cultural heritage elements.
Attractions and planning your route
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is located in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and officially opened on March 29, 2014. Its eight themed areas bring together rare marine animals, rides and large-scale stage shows. This attraction offers a different focus from island nature or historic sites.
The first edition of the “Zhuhai Origins” cultural route launched on Qi'ao Island on March 24, 2026. It ran from Su Zhaoshen's former residence and Baishi Street, via the Wangchiling Path, to the core area of the Houshawan archaeological site. If you would like to visit stops along this route, check access conditions in advance.
Ferry services to Wailingding, Wanshan, Dong'ao and Guishan operate from Hengqin Passenger Terminal. As routes may change, check the current timetable before planning a ferry trip. The landscapes, cultural sites and attractions in the wider area offer different experiences; which ones suit your trip depends on how you want to spend your time.
