Get to know Hanzhong through its historic sites, museum exhibits and paths along the Han River. Highlights include the East Pagoda, Hanzhong City Museum, Baijiangtan, Tianhan Wetland Park and Xinghan Shengjing. If you’re looking for a hotel in Hanzhong, these different areas of interest can help you tailor your stay to your interests.

The East Pagoda and historic city views

Hanzhong’s East Pagoda, also known as the Jingmingsi Pagoda, is one of the city’s oldest surviving ancient buildings. In 2013, it was included in the seventh group of nationally protected cultural heritage sites in China. The building’s historical context and a specific heritage classification are therefore both noteworthy.

The pagoda is also associated with a historic city view: its reflection could be seen in Yinma Pond, and this scene was one of Hanzhong’s eight most beautiful views. The pagoda is therefore part of the city’s history not only through its architectural heritage but also through a traditional landscape scene.

Museum, palace history and places of remembrance

Hanzhong City Museum is a national first-class museum and a national AAA-rated tourist attraction. It displays the “Thirteen Inscriptions of Shimen” from the Han and Wei periods. For its educational and outreach work, the museum has designed six digital teaching programs and created an experience center for youth education and study programs. It has also developed two animated teaching resources based on the Plank Road and the “Thirteen Inscriptions of Shimen,” as well as an immersive AR classroom and a virtual tour using digital 3D glasses.

Guhan Tai was once Liu Bang’s palace in Hanzhong and is now part of Hanzhong City Museum. A description from 2025 states that the museum grounds are free to enter year-round, except on Mondays for maintenance, and that an online reservation is required. Check the current schedule before your visit.

Baijiangtan is the historic altar site where Liu Bang appointed Han Xin as a general. Exhibitions on Hanzhong’s historical relics and Han Xin’s life are displayed in the Baijiangtan museum area. This brings together the history of a specific site and related exhibition topics.

Paths, water and nature at Tianhan Wetland Park

Tianhan Wetland Park is located along the Han River within Hanzhong’s urban area. It has 16 kilometers of recreational paths and 6.2 kilometers of scenic boardwalks. The two figures refer to different types of paths and give you a concrete sense of the scale of the park’s infrastructure.

A beach corridor, a riverside boardwalk and a road along the top of the embankment connect the park’s areas. People walk or cycle along the connected corridors, riverside boardwalk and embankment road. There are also sports facilities used by local residents for recreation and exercise. The park’s wildlife can be described using several species counts: it is home to 314 plant species, more than 30 fish species and more than 90 bird species.

Han culture and culinary highlights

Xinghan Shengjing comprises five themed areas focused on Han culture. Performances at Hanjing Square include Sichuan opera face-changing, fire-breathing, Han opera and Hanfu dance. As the program may change, check performance dates before visiting.

Yinma Pond has a night market known for its snack street. Together with the East Pagoda’s historic reflection scene, the pond has two distinct associations: a historic city view and a culinary highlight.

Choose a hotel based on your interests

Choose a theme for your trip: the East Pagoda, Guhan Tai, Baijiangtan and the museum offer different points of interest for those interested in cultural history. If you’re more interested in paths, cycling and biodiversity, make Tianhan Wetland Park a focus; Han culture and performances point to Xinghan Shengjing. For your next step, consider your travel dates and the specific details of each hotel listing, including location, amenities and booking conditions.
