The wider region around Changzhi offers historic architecture and a landscape attraction at Zhangze Lake. The places below highlight specific themes without setting out a fixed itinerary. Even if you are first looking for a hotel in Changzhi, these points of interest can help you decide what you want your trip to focus on.

Historic buildings in the surrounding region

The Lu’an Prefecture City God Temple brings together several clearly distinct construction periods. It was founded in 1285 and renovated in 1492 and 1834. Its main and corner halls date from the Yuan dynasty; the sleeping quarters, theatre stage and Xuajian Hall are attributed to the Ming dynasty, and the covered walkways and side halls to the Qing dynasty. Architectural styles from all three periods can be seen in the temple. It is located on Miaoda Lane, off Dabei Street in Changzhi. For those interested in cultural history, comparing the different parts of the complex is especially illuminating: it cannot be reduced to a single construction date, but brings together evidence from several periods.

Shangdang Gate offers a different historical perspective. It was the gate to the seat of the Shangdang Commandery from the Sui dynasty and is a nationally protected cultural heritage site. Within Changzhi’s urban area, it stands at the northern end of Fupo Street. Information published in December 2025 gives its address as West Street. According to that information, city buses serve the “上党门” or “长治二中” stops; the gate can be reached on foot from there. From the square in front of the gate, you can take in views of the surrounding mountains. For your planning, this site therefore combines a historical function with a landscape view. Check current bus services before setting out.

The Changzhi Museum offers another perspective on the region’s cultural history. In 2009, it was classified as a National Second-Class Museum. An official profile published in 2018 lists more than 60,000 cultural relics and over 1,200 precious objects in its collection. The museum is located at 259 Taixing West Street in Changzhi. On January 1, 2026, the opening ceremony for Changzhi Cultural Center and its three institutions was held in the museum’s eastern square. Its classification and collection describe the museum as an institution; the temple and gate, by contrast, represent specific construction periods and a former function. This distinction helps ensure that the region’s cultural attractions are not reduced to just one kind of sight.

Wetlands and scenery

Changzhi National Urban Wetland Park shifts the focus from architectural heritage to the landscape. It lies northwest of the urban area, on the southern part of Zhangze Lake, borders the urban area and covers 740 hectares. Its functions include forestry ecology demonstrations, wetland conservation and ecological sightseeing tourism. This gives it a clear focus distinct from the temple and gate: the park centers on ecology and wetlands, while the historic sites are approached through their dates, architecture and former uses. Its 740-hectare area conveys the park’s scale. If you would rather explore the landscape than historic buildings on your trip, the park offers a point of interest in its own right.
