Xing An: Lingqu, Waterways and Cultural Sites
Accommodation in Xing An
When finding your way around Xing An, waterways and cultural sites take center stage. The Lingqu connects the Xiang and Li rivers and thus the Yangtze and Pearl River systems. Its southern canal runs through Dongcun in San Gui Village in Xing An. This brings a major waterway and a specifically named local section together. The destination can also be explored through the Lingqu Scenic Area, a memorial park, and the riverside landscape along the Qingshui.
The Lingqu: Connections and a Measure of Time
The Lingqu is 37.4 kilometers long and more than 2,000 years old. Its length and age draw attention to different aspects: the number of kilometers describes its extent, while its age reflects the waterway’s historical depth. It also connects the Xiang and Li rivers, linking the Yangtze and Pearl River systems. For a more precise location reference, there is the southern canal, which runs through Dongcun in San Gui Village. You will therefore encounter the Lingqu both as a connection between river systems and as a specific, named section of Xing An.
Cultural Heritage and Remembrance
The Lingqu Scenic Area contains two distinct zones: the Historic and Cultural Protection Area at the head of the canal, and the Qin City Water Street Cruise and Recreation Area. The area is rated a national 4A tourist attraction and is designated a national key cultural relic protection site. The 4A rating refers to its tourist classification, while the cultural relic designation represents a separate protection status. Another independently named 4A site is the scenic park commemorating the Red Army martyrs of the Long March’s breakthrough at the Xiangjiang River. The park focuses on remembrance, while the Lingqu foregrounds waterway connections, canal history, and cultural heritage. The same tourist classification thus encompasses two different thematic focuses.
Riverside Landscape and Water Street
The Qingshui River offers a different perspective on Xing An. It runs through the Daoguan, Shanjiao, and San Gui areas; its value lies both in its scenery and in its appeal for exploration. This complements the Lingqu’s historical and hydrological significance with a distinct river connection. The place names Daoguan, Shanjiao, and San Gui are part of the Qingshui’s route, while Dongcun is the named reference point on the Lingqu’s southern canal.
Qinwen Liushang is the entrance to Xing'an Water Street. The name gives you a specific point of reference when adding Water Street to your travel plans. Together with the different areas of the Lingqu Scenic Area, this makes it possible to distinguish among canal history, remembrance, riverside scenery, and Water Street without treating them as a single attraction.
