Xiangtan can be explored through a range of travel interests: art, history, scenery and regional cuisine. The wider Xiangtan travel area includes the Qi Baishi Memorial Hall in Yuhu District, Yaowan, Zhaoshan Scenic Area and Panlong Grand View Garden. A Xiangtan fish tradition complements these cultural and scenic themes. The examples differ considerably from one another and offer several possible focal points for planning your trip.

Art and history

The Qi Baishi Memorial Hall is located in Baishi Park on Dahu Road in Yuhu District and is dedicated to the painter Qi Baishi. A 2026 district presentation lists it as a national 3A tourist attraction. Its collection includes dozens of Chinese paintings and early wood carvings by Qi Baishi, as well as hundreds of works by modern and contemporary artists. For those interested in art, the combination is noteworthy: the hall is named for Qi Baishi, while its collection also includes works by other artists.

The historic Yaowan Cultural and Tourism Street Block in the Xiangtan travel area is more than 1,700 years old. Unlike the memorial hall, whose description combines a dedication to an artist with an art collection, Yaowan focuses on the long history of a street block. This brings two distinct cultural themes into view: Chinese painting and the history of a historic street block.

Scenery and educational focus

Zhaoshan Scenic Area is located in Yuetang District of Xiangtan, on the eastern bank of the Xiang River. It was recognized as a scenic area of Hunan Province in 1991 and as a national 4A tourist attraction in 2014. It is also considered an important ecological recreation area in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Green Heart. These successive recognitions and the ecological designation describe different aspects of the area: its scenic-area classification, its later status as an attraction, and its role in the regional Green Heart.

Panlong Grand View Garden in Yuetang District is also a national 4A tourist attraction. In addition, it was recognized as a national study-tour education center for students. Compared with Zhaoshan, this recognition highlights a different focus: Panlong has an educational dimension for student groups, while Zhaoshan is also described as an ecological recreation area. This distinction helps you compare the two attractions according to the themes stated for each.

Regional cuisine

“Fish Boiled in Water” is a Xiangtan dish. According to tradition, fishermen at Shibazong Wharf prepared their freshly caught fish with chili and cooked it in a pot. The tradition thus links a specific cooking method with a local story about fishing. Unlike the attractions, the dish is not associated with a classification or dedication, but with a culinary tradition passed down over time. For travelers interested in regional food culture, it offers a Xiangtan connection to cuisine alongside art and scenery.
