Changde: Poetry Wall, Cultural Sites and Liuye Lake

In Changde itself, the Changde Poetry Wall and Changde Poetry Park offer two distinct cultural perspectives. Nearby, streetscapes, cultural plazas and waterfront destinations add to the attractions. The Changde Poetry Wall and Poetry Park

The Changde Poetry Wall is more than four kilometres long and divided into eight sections. Their titles are “百代沧桑”, “名贤题咏”, “武陵佳致”, “兰芷风华”, “华夏新声”, “五洲撷英”, “时代风采” and “千古绝唱”. This division makes the wall an extensive cultural attraction, with each section bearing its own name.

A 2024 administrative report names four themed tours set up by the Poetry Wall administration: a classical route, a route focused on red culture, a route focused on integrity culture, and an education route about Party work. Changde Poetry Park is open to the public and non-profit. It is also an important tourist reception and visitor destination. It therefore offers a distinct public cultural and visitor space alongside the thematically divided Poetry Wall.

Changde Hejie nearby

Changde Hejie is a themed street on the banks of the Chuanzi River in Liuye Lake Tourism Resort. It is modelled on the former street along the Yuanjiang River. It comprises four areas: Mayang Street, Xiaohe Street, Dahe Street and Tianrun Plaza.

Xiaohe Street is more than 300 metres long and is home mainly to snack stalls and restaurants serving local specialities. Individual businesses may change, so if you plan to visit a particular place, check what is currently available in advance. Dahe Street, about one kilometre long, has a different focus: its buildings recreate foreign trading houses, shops and residences from before 1943. It consists mostly of courtyard houses and 窨子屋. The two areas of the street thus place food and recreated historic buildings side by side as distinct themes.

The newly built section of Changde Hejie is 1.5 kilometres long and comprises 281 shops with 150 merchants. The number of shops and merchants may change. Changde Hejie has been designated both a national tourism and leisure district and a national cultural and tourism consumption zone for nighttime activity.

Cultural sites nearby

Language Plaza presents Changde’s language culture through landscape lighting, dialect walls and three-dimensional sculptures. Sixian Plaza illustrates Changde Sixian culture with printed perforated copper plates, cultural stones and art sculptures. The two plazas use different means to make culture visible: language displays and lighting in one, copper plates, stones and sculptures in the other.

Liuye Lake and leisure activities

Liuye Lake has a water surface area of 21.8 square kilometres. In December 2020, it was designated a national tourist resort. Boat trips are available on the lake; check the latest details before making specific plans.

Liuye Lake International Fishing Center offers recreational fishing, spinning, competitive fishing and fishing for entertainment. If you plan to take part in a particular activity there, confirm the current operating details in advance. Liuye Lake Fishing-Song Art Camp focuses on fishing culture and fishing-song art.
