Louga combines urban festival and carnival traditions with other cultural and landscape themes from the region. You can plan your trip around the themes that interest you.

Crafts and culture in the city

The Village de la Foire is located in the heart of Louga in a pedestrian zone and comprises 60 to 80 stalls. It features craftspeople, artists, non-governmental organizations and institutions. The presence of these groups side by side brings together craft and artistic themes with a range of organizations. If you are interested in art and culture, the Village is a practical starting point for exploring the city.

FESFOP and Carnival: two event profiles

The international Festival de Folklore et de Percussions (FESFOP) has been held annually since it was founded in 1999. It brings together groups from around the world, including countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas, as well as regions of Senegal. The festival features tam-tams, masks, ritual dances and polyphonic songs. Percussion, movement and multi-part singing all come together.

The parade is the centerpiece of the Louga Carnival. Carriages, women in traditional dress and parade horses are joined by folklore and entertainment troupes, orchestras, pretend lions, traditional wrestlers and comedians. Along the parade route, people take part through singing, dancing and other forms of participation. If you are choosing between the two cultural events, FESFOP focuses on folklore and percussion, while the Carnival centers on the parade and participation along its route. If you are planning your trip around FESFOP or the Carnival, check the dates for the relevant edition before making plans.
