When looking for a hotel in Mabsil, you can use the access road to Travessia Beach Lodge as a specific reference for getting there. The natural destinations in the wider Inhambane destination offer a broader look at different landscapes and activities.

Access road and market visits

From the EN1 turnoff to Travessia Beach Lodge, it is six kilometres along an unpaved or sandy road; the final few hundred metres to the lodge are along a sandy 4×4 track. For planning purposes, it helps to distinguish between these sections: the track is at the end of the access road and does not cover the entire distance from the turnoff.

In the wider regional area, Travessia Beach Lodge arranges shopping trips for guests with its team to markets in Morrumbene, Massinga or Maxixe. These trips combine a market visit with an outing organised by the lodge team; the destinations named give you a specific selection.

Pomene National Reserve

Established in 1964, Pomene National Reserve is located in Massinga District in Inhambane Province. It includes terrestrial and marine habitats, including vegetated dunes, savannahs, mangroves and swamps. This means several different landscape types exist side by side within one protected area. The reserve also contains the ruins of the Hotel de Pomene, built in 1963, a historical landmark in the landscape. The Mudocha River in Pomene National Reserve is suitable for canoeing. Thus, both the ruins of the former hotel and a specific activity on the river form part of the regional picture here. The hotel was built before the protected area was established.

Zinave National Park

Zinave National Park is located in the northwest of Inhambane Province on the Save River and forms a transition between humid tropical and dry areas. Its main attraction is the riverine forest along the Save, which is home to a diverse range of trees and large mammals. Compared with the varied habitats in Pomene, the landscape focus here shifts to the riverine forest and the transition between the areas. These features give Zinave its own natural profile within the wider Inhambane destination.

Bazaruto Archipelago National Park

Established in 1971, Bazaruto Archipelago National Park is located on the coast of the Vilankulo and Inhassoro districts in Inhambane Province. It extends across five islands: Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina and Bangué. Its landscapes include beaches, natural pools of turquoise water, and large parabolic dunes of white sand. Flamingos live in the saltwater lagoons. Encounters with dugongs, dolphins and sea turtles are possible underwater; however, sightings are not guaranteed. The islands, lagoons and sandy landscapes distinguish this area from Pomene and the Save riverine forest in Zinave.
