Lake Mills offers several different points of interest for a trip: Rock Lake, historic districts in the center, and parks and trails. When looking for a hotel in Lake Mills, you can choose the focus of your stay based on whether you are more interested in local history, water, or outdoor activities. The attractions differ not only in theme but also in their specific features—from historic districts with clearly defined boundaries to trail uses with restrictions.

Local History and Streetscape

The Lake Mills Downtown Commercial Historic District includes the large Village Commons Park and parts of six city blocks, which together make up the historic center of Lake Mills. The Mulberry Street Residential Historic District is also located in the historic center. It includes 11 single-family homes and a church. The districts emphasize different aspects of local history: the Downtown District connects the park and parts of the city blocks with the historic center, while the Mulberry Street District focuses on the single-family homes and the church.

South Main Street (WIS 89) runs north to south through the center of Lake Mills. Trees line the street, along with sidewalks and a narrow landscaped verge. This describes the streetscape itself and complements the perspective of the historic districts, whose boundaries are defined by the park, city blocks, and buildings.

Rock Lake and Water Activities

Rock Lake is located within the Town of Lake Mills and has five public boat launches. Rock Lake Millpond Access is operated by the City of Lake Mills. In addition to its boat launch, Ferry Park has a swimming area and benches. For boat launch fees, the City of Lake Mills lists Sandy Beach and Mill Pond as locations. The water-related sites mentioned can therefore be distinguished by their function: boat launches on the lake, an access point operated by the city, a swimming area with benches, and locations associated with fees.

League volleyball takes place at Sandy Beach Park, 345 Sandy Beach Road, Lake Mills, Wisconsin. This means that, in addition to the water-related sites, a specific sporting activity at a named location is also part of trip planning.

Trails, Parks, and Campground

Sections of land along the Glacial Drumlin State Trail pass through the Town of Lake Mills. The trail is open to hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing; it is not groomed and must be shared with snowmobiles. Korth County Park offers a different focus: it has trails, a shelter, and a restroom. The park also includes areas for prairie and wetland restoration. By comparison, the trail has several specifically listed uses and a clear restriction on shared use, while Korth also has facilities and restoration areas in addition to its trails.

About one mile south of Lake Mills, off Mud Lake Road, is Sandhill Station State Campground. It has 15 campsites accessible only on foot. The approximate distance, southerly direction, and access on foot are key details for locating this campground in the surrounding area.
