When looking for a hotel in Drummond, it helps to consider cultural history, art and outdoor activities as distinct travel interests. The Drummond Historical Museum and two studios offer a different focus from the trail in Drummond Woods or the cross-country ski trails south of town. At Drummond Lake Campground, a public park with a swimming beach and a paved boat ramp are adjacent. This lets you weigh whether your trip should focus more on the museum, studios, forest, cross-country skiing or the waterfront.

Museum and History in Drummond

The Drummond Historical Museum is housed in the Drummond Public Library. Old photographs and numerous logging artifacts relate to the logging era of the late 19th century. Another exhibit is devoted to the animals that live in the Chequamegon National Forest. This brings two perspectives together: historical images and objects on the one hand, and the wildlife of the National Forest on the other. If you want to combine cultural history and nature, you can find both in the same museum.

Drummond Woods and the Cross-Country Ski Trails

Drummond Woods is near the town of Drummond. The old-growth forest is dominated by hemlocks, along with towering white and red pines, large standing dead trees and coarse woody debris. A short interpretive trail runs through the forest and is 0.75 miles long. The forest can therefore be understood not only by its tree species, but also by its deadwood features.

The Drummond Ski Trails are south of Drummond in the Chequamegon National Forest and offer more than 38 kilometers of groomed classic cross-country ski trails. By comparison, the path in Drummond Woods is a short, 0.75-mile interpretive trail through old-growth forest. The two figures are not interchangeable: one describes the length of the interpretive trail, the other the extent of the cross-country trail network. If classic cross-country skiing is part of your travel plans, the grooming style is a specific factor to consider.

Studios by Appointment

Dragonfly Studio creates sculptures from steel, stone and fire; studio tours are available by appointment. Once in a Blue Moon Studio is a home studio that welcomes visitors by appointment. The visiting arrangements differ: a guided studio tour at one, and an appointment to visit a home studio at the other. If art is among your travel interests, you can compare the two destinations by their materials and visiting arrangements.

Swimming Beach and Boat Ramp

At Drummond Lake Campground, a public park with a swimming beach and a paved boat ramp are adjacent. These offer different points of interest: the beach suits swimming plans, while the ramp suits boating plans. The campground’s waterfront setting can thus be considered a distinct focus, separate from the cultural and forest themes.
