Discover South Hill
Accommodation in South Hill
When looking for a hotel in South Hill, you can start by considering what you want to shape your stay: trails through parkland, local history, or shopping and dining. The places offer different highlights. South Hill Community Park and Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail are known for trails and nature, while Bradley Lake Park and Wildwood Park add a lake, forest and historic structure to the picture. There are also historical markers for the Pioneer Trail, as well as South Hill Mall as a shopping and dining destination. These differences can help you sort out your interests for the trip.
Park Trails, Forest and Water
The paved trails in South Hill Community Park connect with Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail and Heritage Recreation Center. Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail winds through forests and wetlands. This brings paved trails together with a route that has a distinctly natural character. If you enjoy walking, you can take both aspects into account when planning your time: the connections in Community Park and the forest and wetland landscape along the trail.
Bradley Lake Park covers almost 60 acres and is mostly wooded; a 13-acre lake lies within it. The park's origins are also part of its character: the lake was created by peat mining and the construction of a dam. Wildwood Park covers 80 acres, of which 55 acres are naturally wooded. These figures provide a tangible comparison of the two park landscapes, while the lake at Bradley Lake Park adds another landscape focal point.
Wildwood Park has fitness trails and several other trails. A historic water tank also stands there: it was built in 1928, taken out of service in the 1950s, and can still be visited. A visit combines a walk among trails and natural forest with a tangible piece of local history. The water tank is an attraction in its own right, not simply another name for the park's landscape.
A Park with a Community Center
Meridian Habitat Park and Community Center is a 36-acre wooded park with a community center and a large lawn. It is also known locally as Puyallup Amphitheatre. The combination of forest, open lawn and community center sets this park apart from descriptions that focus mainly on a lake, trails or a historic structure. The park is served by Pierce Transit bus route 402. Check the current service before your trip, as routes and service patterns may change.
History and Shopping
Heritage Recreation Center is located in the South Hill Heritage Corridor, where historical markers for the Pioneer Trail can be found. Together with the water tank in Wildwood Park, this offers two different historical points of interest: Pioneer Trail markers on the one hand, and a structure with its own history on the other.
South Hill Mall is a regional shopping center with well-known anchor stores as well as modern home and fashion stores. Individual stores may change. The mall includes an indoor food court, and more than six independent restaurants are located next to the property. This gives South Hill Mall a different focus from the parks: shopping and dining options take center stage here. When planning your trip, you can weigh the parks and historic sites against the shopping area according to which interests matter most to your stay.
When choosing a hotel in South Hill, you can first decide what you want to focus on: park trails and forest, a lake and scenery, historic places, or a visit to the shopping mall. The places described differ in their specific features; comparing these highlights can help you organize your travel plans.
