North Camellia Acres is the northernmost of the Camellia neighborhood areas. The neighborhood lies north of East Little Creek Road and extends into Little Creek. The road and creek provide two specific reference points for local orientation. Its northernmost position describes where it lies among the Camellia areas; its extension into the creek adds a distinct connection to the water.

Norfolk Botanical Garden

Norfolk Botanical Garden is one mile south of North Camellia Acres. Its 175-acre grounds include more than 60 themed gardens. Seven miles of paths wind through seasonal floral displays. The acreage, number of themed gardens, and path length describe different aspects of the garden: its size, thematic variety, and network of paths. For a visit on foot, the path length is a helpful indication of scale; the number of themed gardens gives an idea of the range of themes. From Camellia Shores and Camellia Acres, the garden lies beyond Lake Whitehurst. You can explore the themed gardens by tram, boat, or on foot. The choice of how to tour the garden places a different emphasis than the length of the paths: a walk uses the path network, while the tram and boat offer other ways to explore the grounds. The seasonal floral displays also give a garden visit a seasonal dimension.

Piers and Waterfront Spots

Ocean View Fishing Pier offers a view of Chesapeake Bay. The pier has a bait shop, a restaurant, and restrooms. If any of these amenities are important for your visit, check in advance whether they are open. East Ocean View Community Center Pier serves anglers, boaters, and visitors to the community center. The two piers differ in their stated features: Chesapeake Bay views and amenities are the focus at Ocean View Fishing Pier; the user groups are the focus at Community Center Pier.

Ocean View’s East Beach is two miles from North Camellia Acres. By comparison, Norfolk Botanical Garden is closer: it is one mile south of the neighborhood.

Summer Group Trips on Pretty Lake

Every summer on Pretty Lake, Norfolk lifeguards lead group kayak and canoe trips for children attending summer camps. The intended participants and group format are important for planning: these trips are for summer camp children and take place as an organized summer program. If you are planning a trip for a particular summer, check the dates for that period in advance.

Different Travel Planning Priorities

You can organize the options by interest and timing: the botanical garden offers themed gardens and different ways to explore, while the piers are characterized by Bay views, amenities, or user groups. Pretty Lake adds seasonal group trips for summer camp children. This can help you decide whether to focus on a garden visit, a pier, or a summer program.
