Alburgh offers swimming on Lake Champlain, a variety of routes, a public golf course, and seasonal activities. When planning your trip, consider not only the activities but also their routes and timing. The state park combines a beach with water-sports rentals; other destinations range from a cycling loop to a seasonal ice rink.

Beach and water at Alburgh Dunes State Park

Alburgh Dunes State Park covers 625 acres and was designated a state park in 1996. It offers swimming at one of the longest beaches on Lake Champlain. You can also rent boats and stand-up paddleboards in the park. This gives you the choice of swimming and two different watercraft rental options. The route known as “beach road” in the park is about 1.25 miles long.

Bike trails and their routes

A 5.8-mile cycling loop lies entirely within Alburgh. It follows “beach road” parallel to the lakeshore through the state park. The Alburgh Rail Trail is 3.5 miles long and follows an abandoned railroad corridor. The trail passes through gently rolling terrain and farmland, as well as the Mud Creek State Wildlife Area, before reaching the shore of Lake Champlain in East Alburgh. The two routes therefore differ in both length and course: the loop stays in Alburgh, while the Rail Trail leads to the lakeshore in East Alburgh.

The main route of the Lake Champlain Bikeway also runs through Alburgh, along Route 2. Alburgh Golf Links is a public golf course on Route 129 in Alburgh. Alongside the water and bike trails, a named golf course and a main Bikeway route therefore provide specific points of reference for activities in town.

Winter activities and seasonal planning

Sno Springers offers 33 miles of snowmobile trails in Alburgh. Alburgh Community Park is located behind the Senior Center and is one of the smaller publicly accessible recreational facilities. During the winter months, the park has an ice rink. While the snowmobile trails can be described by their overall length, the ice rink is specific to this particular park. If you plan to use it during your stay, check in advance whether it is currently open.

Museum and event in Alburgh

New England Via Vermont in Alburgh includes a Civil War Museum that is closed seasonally. Take this closure into account when planning a museum visit. The annual Crops and Soils Field Day is held at Borderview Research Farm in Alburgh. The 2026 edition included a guided morning tour of the farm. These destinations require different considerations when choosing your travel dates: note the seasonal closure for the museum; if you plan to travel for the Field Day, check the dates for the relevant edition.
