When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on historical development, an annual event, or a visit to the aquatic center. If you’re looking for a hotel in Burkburnett, you can plan your stay around these interests.

Burkburnett: Early Town History

Burkburnett’s official founding is marked by a land sale handled by Kemp and Kell on June 6, 1907. The townsite was laid out along the railroad later that year. The First National Bank of Burkburnett had already been established on May 15, 1907. The land deal, railroad connection, and bank founding all belong to the same early period, but mark different milestones in the town’s development.

By 1915, nineteen trains a day ran to Burkburnett on the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad. Geographically, Burkburnett is located at the intersection of Interstate Highway 44 and State Highway 240.

The history of the First Methodist Church of Burkburnett is also marked by two dates: the congregation held its first service on April 12, 1908; in 1925, it built a new brick church. The MK&T Depot still stands just a few feet from its original early-20th-century location. Oil was discovered west of Burkburnett in 1912. An article published in Cosmopolitan about the oil boom captured the spirit of the era and later inspired the 1940 film “Boom Town.”

Recreation Between the Water and the Red River

Burkburnett has five parks, as well as the Boomtown Bay Family Aquatic Center for family-friendly water recreation. Boomtown Bay is a municipal aquatic center with fast slides, a lazy river, and a splash area for children. Seasonal hours may change; check current hours before your visit.

The River Creek Park Golf Club is located on the Red River. The club has an 18-hole championship course and four sets of tees. If golf is a focus of your stay, the location, course format, and tee sets are useful features to consider.

Annual Events and When to Visit

The Boomtown Fishing Derby is held annually at Friendship Park Pond and is for children from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The Boomtown Rodeo is also held every year, in July. If one of these events is the reason for your trip, check the specific event date before booking your hotel.

The time references differ: historical dates put the town’s development in context, while the Fishing Derby and Rodeo return annually. Boomtown Bay’s seasonal hours are relevant and may change. Plan your trip around what brings you to Burkburnett, and check the relevant dates or opening hours if they are important to your stay.
