Willow Park brings together a range of points of interest for travel planning: golf at Squaw Creek Golf Course, local history, parks, and a planned regional trail network. The District at Willow Park adds another dimension as a neighborhood restaurant and entertainment district.

Golf and Trails in Willow Park

Squaw Creek Golf Course is located in Willow Park, Texas. If golf is a priority in choosing your destination, the course is a specific point of interest in the area. Trinity Track was established in Kings Gate Park in spring 2024. This adds a newer trail-related attraction alongside Willow Park’s historical themes. The golf course and track offer different points of interest for travel planning: one is identified as a golf course, the other as a trail in a particular park.

Historic Sites and Highways

The remains of the Bankhead Highway generally form the southern boundary of large parts of present-day Willow Park. This is a general reference point for parts of the city, not a continuous boundary for the entire area. A more specific historical point of interest is Willow Springs Cemetery. It is located on the north frontage road of Interstate 20 at Exit 415. The cemetery has a gravestone stating that Martha Sherman was killed by Indigenous people in 1860. This illustrates the difference between a broad historical road corridor and a specific remembrance recorded on a gravestone.

U.S. Highway 80 is another historic transportation route associated with Willow Park. After the highway was completed, a rest stop with native willows and a pond was established nearby for travelers and Sunday visitors. The pond is still visible north of Interstate 20. Here, the focus is on the former rest stop and a landscape feature that remains visible; unlike the Bankhead Highway, it is not a boundary.

Parks and a Planned Trail Network

Willow Park Wildscape, also called Deer Park, is on Ranch House Rd and covers approximately 2.0 acres. Pfc. Paul Balint Jr. Memorial Park is at 516 Ranch House Rd and covers approximately 1.5 acres. The difference between the two approximate areas is about 0.5 acres. Their names, locations, and sizes provide several specific features for distinguishing the two parks.

Willow Park’s trail system forms the hub of the planned East Parker County Trails (EPCOT). The ongoing project aims to connect trails in neighboring cities into a comprehensive, interconnected trail system for Parker County and beyond. Willow Park has a central role in this plan; connecting the trails is stated as a goal of the project. This gives local trail planning a regional perspective that extends beyond individual parks and tracks.

Food and Entertainment

The District at Willow Park is a neighborhood restaurant and entertainment district. For travelers who are also interested in food and entertainment, it adds another area of interest to the historic sites and trails.
