Marble Falls: Lake, Parks, and Culture
Accommodation in Marble Falls
Marble Falls is located on the shore of Lake Marble Falls. The lake, various parks, and cultural exhibits offer different starting points for planning your trip. On the water, both general recreational opportunities and specific activities are in focus; in museums and at art exhibitions, you can explore other aspects of the town and region.
Lake Marble Falls and the namesake waterfalls
The waterfalls after which Marble Falls is named are now underwater. Every few years, they become visible when the Lower Colorado River Authority lowers the lake for repairs. Their visibility is therefore tied to this lowering and is not a permanent feature along the lakeshore.
Kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and jet skiing are offered on Lake Marble Falls in Marble Falls. Lakeside Park is also located on the lake. Its calm waters are suitable for boating and other water-based recreational activities. If you are interested in water sports, in addition to boating, you will find three specific activities to consider when planning your trip.
Parks, Water, and Events
Falls Creek Park has a canoe launch and the Falls Creek Park Skatepark. This means the park is home to both a canoe launch facility and a skatepark. Johnson Park has a different character: pecan trees shade an area where Backbone Creek and Whitman Branch flow into Lake Marble Falls.
Events held at Johnson Park include the Family Camp Out, the Summer Concert Series, and Mayfest. The Lakefest Drag Boat Races are another park event: they take place every May at Lakeside Park. If you want to plan your trip around this race, check the event dates in advance.
Museums and Art
The Falls on the Colorado Museum features exhibits on Marble Falls schools, life on farms and ranches, and early Mormon settlement. Geology, as well as lakes, rivers, and dams, are also among the exhibit topics. Rockie, a 700-year-old bison, is also on display at the museum. A museum devoted to the history of Marble Falls is located in the historic 1891 Granite School.
“Sculptures on Main” is an outdoor art exhibition accessible around the clock. It changes, features multiple artists, and honors artists from the Texas Hill Country. Another exhibition is devoted to the childhood of painter Akiane: “Akiane: The Early Years” at the Belóved Gallery features fourteen original paintings from that period.
Seasonal Outings and Educational Programs
The seasonal Texas Corn Maze at Sweet Berry Farm covers a four-acre field that looks exactly like Texas from the air. Signs featuring real places in Texas and interconnected paths form a maze. In addition to this puzzle trail, Sweet Berry Farm offers educational programs on agriculture, entomology, animals, and other topics. The maze and the programs focus on different things: one is about paths and place names, while the other covers agricultural and nature-related topics.
Practical Planning
Marble Falls parks are open daily from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. Check opening hours before your trip, as they may change. It is also a good idea to check the event dates for the Lakefest Drag Boat Races if the May event is important to your trip.
