Fairview: Nature and History
Accommodation in Fairview
When looking for hotels in Fairview, you can first consider whether nature and trails or the history of the rural community will shape your stay more. Fairview offers different points of interest for both: Bowie Nature Park, Triangle School, and the Historical Village.
Nature and Education at Bowie Nature Park
Bowie Nature Park covers more than 700 acres of forests, lakes, and hiking trails. The Nature Center is home to animals and also offers the opportunity to learn more about nature. The Bowie Museum is also located in the Nature Center and presents the history of the Bowie family as well as the history of the park. Thus, in addition to its scenery and trails, Bowie Nature Park offers nature education and specific historical topics. If you would like to combine nature and history in your travel plans, this combination offers a range of interests centered around the Nature Center.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
Fairview is accessible via Highway 100 or I-840. The entrance to Bowie Nature Park is in Fairview on Highway 100, about one mile west of the intersection of Highway 96 and Highway 100. Highway 100 is therefore relevant both as a route into Fairview and as a reference point for the park entrance; I-840 is another general route into Fairview.
Triangle School and the Historical Village
Triangle School is currently located in the Historical Village. Local craftsmen built it in 1938 in the rural community of Fairview; it opened in 1939. The two years refer to different stages: first construction, then opening. The school was intended to bring together students and teachers from several one-room rural schools. It also addressed the social and cultural needs of the rural community. Its history thus connects its educational purpose with the school's role in the life of the community.
The Boone Street Medical Clinic and Jingo Post Office are also currently located in the Historical Village. The historical focus of Triangle School differs from that of the Bowie Museum: the museum presents the history of the Bowie family and the park, while the school represents shared education and the social and cultural needs of the rural community.
Trails and a June Event
Veterans Memorial Park includes a lake and has a path for walking and running. The Fishing Rodeo is held there every June. If this event is important to your travel plans, check the specific event date for the June in question.
The parks offer different highlights: at Bowie Nature Park, forests, lakes, and hiking trails combine with the Nature Center and museum; at Veterans Memorial Park, the lake and walking and running path provide the setting for the annual Fishing Rodeo. You can choose according to your interests—for example, nature and educational topics or a visit around the June event.
