Gallatin offers a variety of ways to spend your stay: historic homes, museums, and a cemetery sit alongside markets, events, and recreational activities. When planning your trip, it is especially helpful to know the timing of individual attractions. Some offerings are seasonal, while special events take place throughout the year in the historic center. This lets you focus your trip on history, culture, or outdoor activities.

History and Museums

Historic Rose Mont is considered one of Tennessee’s outstanding Greek Revival homes. It is open from the first Saturday in April through the end of October, Wednesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If Rose Mont is an important part of your itinerary, check the seasonal visiting hours again before your trip.

The Gallatin City Cemetery is a historic military cemetery founded in 1818. The cemetery features a monument to the Mexican-American War, originally erected between 1848 and 1850. The Sumner County Museum spans nearly 10,000 square feet and houses exhibits covering the period from prehistoric times to modern history. These sites offer different perspectives: the cemetery commemorates specific events of the 19th century, while the museum spans a much longer period.

Events and Downtown

The Palace Theatre is Tennessee’s oldest silent-film theater still standing in its original location and a permanent indoor stage in Sumner County. The theater publishes a calendar of public events at the venue. You can contact the theater by phone for dates or to book the venue. Check the announced event dates if a particular date is meant to shape your stay.

Special events take place throughout the year in Gallatin’s historic center; individual dates may change. Visitors can stroll around the square in the historic center and discover unique shops and a variety of dining options.

Murals also tell stories about Gallatin’s history. One mural depicts a 1970 basketball game between Gallatin High School and Union High School. The mural in Thompson Park depicts a Gallatin-born resident who was Tennessee’s first professional skateboarder.

There are also handcrafted items, including vegan soaps and lotions, leatherwork and woodwork, candles, and jewelry. Food offerings may vary seasonally, and crafts also depend on the season and vendors.

Outdoor and Water Recreation

The Town Creek Greenway is approximately two miles long. The mountain biking trail at Lock 4 is approximately nine miles long and consists of well-maintained singletrack. Lock 4 Park offers access to a boat ramp and has an accessible 20 × 70-foot fishing pier. Triple Creek Park also has a fenced dog park.
