Discover Collierville
Accommodation in Collierville
If you’re looking for a hotel in Collierville, local attractions can help you decide whether the destination matches your travel interests. Highlights range from railroad history and a Civil War trail to paths for exercise, nature and music at Town Square.
Local History and a Trail
The Frisco 1351 steam locomotive was built in September 1912 by the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady, New York. It was originally numbered Frisco 1313. In November 1943, additional wheels under the cab and a larger boiler were added; it was retired in 1952. It arrived in Collierville in 1992. These milestones give the locomotive a clearly dated history—from its construction and modification to its arrival in town.
A railroad car is also part of Collierville’s railroad history: the Executive Car was converted into a parlor car in the 1940s. Its features include three bedrooms, a shower, a dining room, a kitchen and quarters for the cook. Collierville’s offerings therefore include both the technical history of a steam locomotive and the interior of a converted parlor car.
Another way to explore local history is the local Civil War trail. It is part of the multistate Civil War Trails system. If you’re interested in history, you can explore this trail as a distinct highlight alongside the railroad history.
The Morton Museum of Collierville History is currently open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Check the opening hours before you arrive if you’re planning a museum visit.
Trails, Exercise and Nature
The Collierville Greenbelt System offers 18.58 miles of opportunities for walking and exercise. Its trails connect residential neighborhoods, parks, schools and commercial areas, also providing options for alternative transportation. The system is therefore relevant both for exercise and for travel between these areas.
At H. W. Cox Park, the QR Fit Trail offers on-demand workout videos. You can use a smartphone to access the videos via QR codes. This combines using a trail with workout instructions that are available directly on your mobile phone.
For a different nature experience, visit Robbins-Halle Nature Preserve, which encompasses 99.89 acres of natural hardwood forest in a floodplain. Here, the focus is on the area’s landscape. Peterson Lake Nature Center also has a boardwalk in W. C. Johnson Park. If you’re planning to visit, check the latest visitor information beforehand.
Town Square, Music and a Holiday Tradition
Collierville Town Square welcomes visitors year-round. Hours for individual attractions may vary. It’s also where the Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Jam takes place. You can listen or bring your own acoustic instrument; all experience levels are welcome. This makes the jam a cultural attraction distinct from the historical trails and collections.
The StoryWalk program offers a seasonal tradition: throughout the Christmas season, The Polar Express is featured as a special holiday story. If your trip falls during this time, it’s another cultural facet of Collierville, alongside the music and history.
