Milan: City Park, Culture and Events
Accommodation in Milan
A trip to Milan can be planned around outdoor activities, recurring events, and cultural history. If you are looking for a hotel in Milan, you can tailor your stay to your main interest: trails, an event, or a cultural history visit.
Trails and Outdoor Activities
Milan City Park covers 160 acres. Its arboretum has a 1.4-mile walking trail through more than 40 tree species. The Scenic Trail is also 1.4 miles long and can be used for jogging, walking, and cycling. The same distance thus offers different focuses: trees on one trail, several types of exercise on the other.
The Herb Davis Trail is 0.4 miles long and has 10 fitness stations. Spirit's Playground is designed for children up to and including age 12. Milan City Park has seven pavilions available for reservation; availability and fees may change. The Bobby Ross Amphitheater hosts various events year-round; the program may change.
Events and Market Hours
Food Truck Friday's takes place at Milan City Park during the summer months; dates and vendors may change. The Milan Farmers' Market is open Tuesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until noon. Check market hours before you arrive.
Since it began in 2000, the Milan No-Till Field Day has been held every two years on the fourth Thursday in July at the University of Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station in Milan. The Milan Downtown Fall Festival takes place every year on the second Saturday in October in downtown Milan. The two events therefore differ in both their frequency and their date pattern. Schedules for both may change; check the specific dates before your trip.
Culture and History
The West Tennessee Agricultural Museum features life-size depictions of the everyday challenges settlers faced as they developed new territory. In a museum spanning more than 16,000 square feet, it also displays more than 2,600 implements.
The Milan Polk Clark Enrichment Center was built in 1926 as the Gibson County Training School with support from the Julius Rosenwald Fund. Part of the center is dedicated to preserving the school's history. The US Post Office in Milan, Tennessee, has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since 1987.
The Milan Ritz 3 Cinema has been a fixture of Gibson County's moviegoing scene since 1941; its current schedule may change. The Milan Disc Golf Course is a permanent 18-hole course, though operating conditions may change.
