Irmo combines a festival tradition spanning more than five decades with parks and a longer rail trail. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, it helps to first decide what brings you there: a festival raises the question of travel dates, while a walk or trail route involves different considerations about distance. The places below differ in their events and their specific park and trail offerings.

Festivals and their venues

Irmo has hosted the Okra Strut for more than 50 years. The annual Irmo Okra Strut Festival takes place at Moore Park, which also includes an amphitheater. The annual Cherry Blossom Festival and the annual Christmas tree lighting are held at Whitt Cline Community Park, where a pavilion is nestled among the gardens. This means two annual festivals share the same venue, while the Okra Strut Festival is held at Moore Park. Festival dates and programs may change. If a festival is the reason for your trip, check the dates and program for that year’s event in advance.

Park offerings for different interests

Rawls Creek Park has separate dog areas for large and small dogs. Membership requirements may change; check them if you plan to use the areas. The park also has an 8,500-square-foot skate park and a 0.4-mile walking path. These figures describe different features: the square footage refers to the skate park’s area, while the mileage indicates the path’s length. Park offerings may change. When planning, you can decide whether visiting the dog areas, using the skate park, or walking the path is your priority.

From a park path to a longer route

The 10.8-mile Peak to Prosperity Passage Rail-Trail runs from Irmo through Piedmont forests. Compared with the 0.4-mile walking path at Rawls Creek Park, it is a considerably longer route. The two distances offer a concrete point of reference for planning: the park path is the shorter option, and the rail trail is the longer route. Trail conditions may change; check the conditions before your visit.

Getting there and planning your stay

Irmo can be reached via I-26 exits 102A, 101A, and 103. For traveling by car, these exits provide specific reference points for route planning. Road conditions and routes may change; check the current route before setting out.

When looking for hotels in Irmo, you can first decide whether an event date will determine your travel period, or whether park offerings and trail distance are your main priorities. These are different planning considerations: for a festival, the date and venue matter; for a route, comparing the stated distances can help. This makes it easier to plan your stay around what matters to you.
