Little Compton brings together nature, cultural history, and seasonal shopping to help you plan your trip. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can organize your stay around these themes: Goosewing Beach Preserve is known for its nature and birdlife, while the Little Compton Common Historic District and Wilbor House Museum offer historical perspectives. Ways to visit also vary—from exploring on foot to seasonal guided tours and self-guided exhibits. Your travel dates therefore matter in different ways for different offerings.

Nature and Birdlife

Goosewing Beach Preserve is a haven for young piping plovers, common terns, herons, and thousands of migrating songbirds. In spring and summer, it provides nesting habitat for young piping plovers and common terns. This seasonal nesting habitat goes hand in hand with the opportunity to explore the preserve on foot year-round.

The preserve does not have its own parking lot. Visitors can park at South Shore Beach and walk from there to the preserve. Parking availability and fees may change; check current parking information before your visit. Also check access information for your visit.

History and Visits

The Little Compton Common Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Wilbor House Museum offers a different historical perspective: guided tours showcase historic rooms representing life in Little Compton from 1690 to 1920. The Wilbor House property dates to 1690. The dates serve different purposes: 1690 is the date of the property and also the start of the period represented; 1920 is the end of that period. This lets you distinguish the District’s historic register listing from the portrayal of life in the museum’s rooms. Tours are seasonal; check the schedule before your visit.

The exhibits “Everyone Was a Farmer” and “Terra Nova, Vida Nova” can be visited year-round on a self-guided tour. Check in advance whether each exhibit will be available when you plan to visit.

Agriculture and Local Markets

Wishing Stone Farm is located in Little Compton. As of September 6, 2026, visitors can buy vegetables, eggs, and prepared foods at the farm; the same products are also offered at other markets in Providence. Market offerings are seasonal. If you’re looking for a particular product category, check whether it will be available when you plan to shop.

Comparing Travel Seasons

The different time frames can help you choose when to travel: nesting habitat is relevant in spring and summer, while tours and market offerings are seasonal; the exhibits can be visited year-round on a self-guided tour.
