When looking for a hotel in Laurys Station, it is worth considering the destination’s specific activities. Sports facilities are the focus at Laurys Firehouse Park; the River Drive–Cementon section connects the River Drive Trailhead in Laurys Station with Cementon. Nearby, there is also access to the Lehigh River for paddling and tubing enthusiasts. A historic island story adds an earlier connection to recreation to these points of interest. The park, trail section, and river each offer a different perspective on a stay.

Sports at Laurys Firehouse Park

Laurys Firehouse Park is located at 5328 Egypt Road, Laurys Station, PA 18059. Its facilities include an oversized field for lacrosse or soccer, full-size fields for baseball and softball, two basketball courts, and a fitness trail. The options are not limited to a single type of exercise: the fields are designated for specific ball sports, while the fitness trail offers a different point of interest. If you are planning your stay around a particular sporting activity, the park offers several clear options.

River Drive–Cementon: Trail and Scenery

The River Drive–Cementon section of the D&L Trail connects the River Drive Trailhead in Laurys Station with Cementon and follows a former railway corridor. Along the way, visitors may see the Lehigh River, remnants of mills and railroad infrastructure, as well as wildlife. The former railway corridor and the visible remnants along the way are two distinct features: the route follows the former corridor, while railroad infrastructure is among the observable relics. The river and wildlife also sit alongside traces of mills and railroads, giving this section a character shaped by both nature watching and history. Compared with the sports facilities in the park, the emphasis here is less on a particular sport and more on the scenery, route, and remnants of earlier uses.

Paddling on the Lehigh River

Near Laurys Station, paddling and tubing enthusiasts can access the Lehigh River and travel downstream from there to Easton. This distinguishes the river trip from the trail section’s connection to Cementon: one is a trip on the water downstream to Easton, while the other is a trail section between the River Drive Trailhead and Cementon. The different destinations make the activities easy to distinguish when planning a trip.

Historical connection to the Hotel Laury

A historical brochure describes a silt peninsula in the Lehigh River as an island opposite the village of Laurys Station on the west bank of the Slate Dam. In 1890, the island became the property of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Company and served as a picnic and recreation spot for guests of the nearby Hotel Laury. According to the brochure, the island was later abandoned. The sequence of events, from the 1890 change of ownership through its use to its later abandonment, clearly places this island story in the past. It adds a historical connection to recreational use to the perspective on the Lehigh River.
