Cranberry Township: Trails, Sports and History
Accommodation in Cranberry Township
Cranberry Township offers a range of options for a stay focused on outdoor activities, sports, golf and the township’s history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Cranberry Township, the recreational offerings can help you decide what to focus on during your trip. Parks, sports facilities, a golf course and a farm represent different themes to consider as you plan.
Trails and Disc Golf at North Boundary Park
North Boundary Park has two 1.1-mile trails for walking: the NexTier Bike/Hike and the Nature Trail Loop. At the same length, they offer the same distance; their names distinguish the two routes. If you’re choosing based on trail length, there’s no difference between them.
The North Boundary Park Disc Golf Course is located in the western, 30-acre section of North Boundary Park. It includes an 18-hole championship course and a 6-hole recreational course for beginners. The two formats differ in hole count and purpose: the shorter course is specifically intended for learning, while the other is designated as a championship course.
Sports and History
The SportCourt area at UPMC Passavant Sportsplex at Graham Park has 19 pickleball courts. Six of them are under a seasonal dome. The seasonal designation applies to this subset of the courts; it does not apply to all 19 courts.
Heritage Seneca Village is located in the same Sportsplex. Created in 2014, the display depicts the township’s early settlers as figures carved from wood. Alongside the sports offerings, this site provides a specific connection to the history of Cranberry Township.
Loop Trail, Events and Other Park Amenities
Community Park has a 0.5-mile loop trail. Compared with the trails at North Boundary Park, each 1.1 miles long, it is the shorter route. If you’re factoring the length of your walk into your plans, there are trails of different distances to choose from.
The Rotary Amphitheater at Community Park serves year-round as a venue for movies, concerts, fitness classes and other events. The listed formats range from culture to fitness. If your trip depends on a particular event, check its date in advance.
Kids Castle has amenities specifically designed for children ages 2 to 12. The same Community Park is home to a four-acre dog park with separate off-leash areas for large and small dogs. This gives you two specific distinctions to consider when planning: the age range at the playground and the size of dogs in the play areas.
Golf and Powell Farm
Cranberry Highlands is a municipal, daily-fee golf course. The Cranberry Highlands Golf Course is also designated a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International. These details describe both the golf course’s fee structure and its named designation.
Another facet of the township is Powell Farm: the 150-year-old farm covers 71 acres, is maintained and preserved, and is owned and operated by Cranberry Township. Together with the golf course, it offers a different focus from sports and events: a municipally operated farm with a specified acreage and history.
