Tillamook offers travelers several points of interest: the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum, the historic role of Hoquarton Slough, and the seasonal Tillamook County Fair. If you’re looking for a hotel in Tillamook, when you travel can be just as important as your interest in local history or events. Check the Fair and market dates for the year of your trip before planning your stay around them.

Local history at the Pioneer Museum

The Tillamook County Pioneer Museum is downtown, at the intersection of Highways 101 and 6. Its 19 exhibit areas focus on the history of the North Oregon Coast. Regional history is therefore at the heart of the museum, and its downtown location is another practical point of reference for planning your trip.

The museum’s collection includes 55,000 objects and an additional 20,000 photographs. Together with the exhibit areas, these elements of the collection offer several specific ways to explore its historical focus. If you’re interested in the history of the coastal region, you can make the museum a distinct part of your Tillamook trip.

Hoquarton Slough: Waterway and Waterfront Location

Historically, Hoquarton Slough served as a waterway to the city of Tillamook. Supply, passenger, and fishing boats traveled from the Pacific Ocean into Tillamook Bay and used the slough on their way to the city. Its history thus connects the waterway with supplies, passenger transport, and fishing.

The Hoquarton Interpretive Trail runs along the slough’s shore, one block north of downtown Tillamook. Other points of reference include the four-lane bridge next to the trail, as well as Front Street and Highway 101. This gives you specific reference points for planning your visit, from the waterfront to downtown.

A mostly paved connecting route leads from Hoquarton Interpretive Park to Goodspeed Park on 3rd Street. Only a short section is gravel. The named park endpoints and change in surface offer different details to consider when including the route in your plans.

Fair Dates and Seasonal Events

The Tillamook County Fair offers four full days of entertainment for residents and visitors every August. Exact dates can vary from year to year, so check the current dates and program before planning a trip around the Fair.

The Pig-N-Ford races are among the Fair’s traditions. They take place in the Grandstand Arena, and admission to the races is included with admission to the Tillamook County Fair. The Courtyard Stage also offers all-day entertainment. The arena races and all-day stage program are distinct events to keep in mind when reviewing the Fair program.

The Tillamook Farmer’s Market is also seasonal. It brings together local artisans, makers, and vendors offering handmade goods, fresh produce, flowers, and food. In 2026, the market was held on Saturdays from June through September on Laurel Avenue between City Hall and the Court House. If you’re traveling in a later year, check the market dates for that year before including it in your plans.
