Between the Willamette River and the crest of the Cascades, Linn County features a varied landscape. The county lies in the center of the Willamette Valley, with the river as its western boundary and the Cascades as its eastern boundary. Lush farmland, clear lakes and rivers, and dense forests shape the scenery. Waterfalls, historic sites, and activities on the water offer different ways to explore Linn.

Waterfalls and Trails

At McDowell Creek Falls Park, bridges and viewing platforms offer views of Royal Terrace Falls and Majestic Falls. Three miles of trails wind through the park; fishing and wading are sometimes possible in the pools below the waterfalls. The park combines viewpoints and trails with limited opportunities for water activities.

Cascadia County Park also combines a riverside setting with a short walk to a waterfall. It lies at the confluence of Soda Creek and the South Santiam River, and a three-quarter-mile trail leads to Soda Creek Falls. Traces of the historic Santiam Wagon Road can also be seen in the park. Visitors looking to experience nature and history together can find both in one place.

The Quartzville Back Country Byway offers opportunities for hiking and exploring. Along the byway, the Quartzville River offers opportunities for fishing, swimming, and gold panning. The Linn County Covered Bridge Tour is another way to combine scenery and structures; the route can be driven or cycled via Highways 20 and 226. Check the condition of the bridges before your trip. Larwood Bridge is in Wayside Park at the confluence of Roaring River and Crabtree Creek.

Rivers, Lakes, and Reservoirs

Visitors looking to focus their stay on water activities will find a range of options in the county. At John Neal Memorial Park, you can fish and float on the North Santiam River. Trails pass through wetlands and beaver ponds. The boat ramp there is suitable only for launching paddlecraft.

Freeway Lakes Park includes three lakes of approximately 7, 9, and 21 acres. Fishing and boating are possible on the lakes. Whitcomb Creek County Park is on Green Peter Reservoir, near Sweet Home. Activities there include birdwatching, sailing, fishing, hiking, camping, and water sports; there is also a boat ramp on the reservoir.

East of Sweet Home, Sunnyside County Park sits at the northeastern corner of Foster Reservoir. Water activities available there include waterskiing, fishing, and jet skiing. Boats, kayaks, and paddleboards are available to rent in the park; offerings may vary by season. These locations differ primarily in their landscapes and the activities mentioned.

Historic Sites and Museums

In Shedd, you'll find the Boston Flour Mill, also known as Thompson's Mills. It is a separately listed historic property in Linn County and the oldest surviving water-powered grist mill in Oregon. In Brownsville, the Linn County Historical Museum presents its exhibits in the original railroad depot and six Southern Pacific Railroad cars. The collections explore the lifeways, work, and cultures of Indigenous communities, Oregon Trail immigrants, Black and white pioneer settlers, and early county families and communities.

The East Linn Museum features historic rooms, including a pioneer kitchen, a parlor, and a bedroom. Outdoor exhibits include equipment and tools from logging, mining, and agriculture. Also in Brownsville is the Moyer House, built in 1881 and restored to its original condition. Together, these places offer different perspectives on the region's historic buildings, everyday life, and work.

Festivals and Local Traditions

The Lebanon Strawberry Festival has been an annual community tradition since 1909. It celebrates Lebanon's agricultural heritage and the city's reputation as the “Strawberry City.” The festival includes parades, rides, arts and crafts, food vendors, and activities for all ages; the program may vary from year to year. The Lebanon Downtown Farmers Market also offers a glimpse of local food culture, with organically grown fruits and vegetables, canned salsa, pickles, and jams. Vendor selections may vary.
