Guymon offers a range of reasons to plan a trip: an annual rodeo, local history attractions, and nature and recreation interests at Sunset Lake and the Guymon Game Preserve. These options differ in whether you want to include an event date, a historical exhibit, a route along the water, or wildlife viewing.

Rodeo Tradition and Event Dates

The Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo takes place annually in Guymon, Oklahoma, and lasts several days. Events include bull riding, saddle bronc riding, and team roping, among others. The combination brings different forms of rodeo together, making the program more varied than a single event. Guymon Pioneer Days has been a tradition in Guymon since 1933. If you are traveling for the rodeo, plan your stay around the dates of that year’s event and check the event calendar for your travel year.

History at Centennial Park and the Library

Tracks Through Time is a historic caboose exhibit in Centennial Park. Historical photographs, stories, and interactive exhibits preserve an important part of Guymon’s community heritage. The exhibit brings together several forms of interpretation: images, narrated content, and interactive elements. A notice from summer 2026 stated that daily opening hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. were planned after the dedication; check the current hours before visiting.

The Guymon Public Library & Arts Center offers genealogical resources and a local history archive with hundreds of photos from the city’s early years. Family history and the visual record of the city’s early history thus complement the exhibits at Tracks Through Time. While the historic caboose, stories, and interactive presentations are the focus there, genealogical research and the photo archive are specific resources for history enthusiasts at the library. The events calendar lists programs for adults and children each month; schedules may change. Check the calendar if a particular program is important to your stay.

Sunset Lake: Walking Route and Fishing

Sunset Lake in Thompson Park covers 17 acres. A one-mile concrete path goes around the lake, and fishing is a popular recreational activity there. The area and length of the loop describe two different aspects of the site: the lake itself and the path that circles it. When planning, you can consider whether you would rather include a walk along the water or fishing as a recreational interest.

Wildlife Viewing at the Guymon Game Preserve

Visitors can observe buffalo, elk, and Longhorn cattle at the Guymon Game Preserve. This is a different nature focus from Sunset Lake: at the preserve, the emphasis is on wildlife viewing, while at the lake it is on the walking path and fishing. This lets you decide when planning your trip whether you are more interested in observing wildlife or in recreation by the water.
