Eddy County offers several themes to consider when planning a trip: regional history, an annual demonstration of historic farm machinery, and outdoor activities. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay—such as an event date, historic sites, or time in parks and by the water.

History and Architecture

The Eddy County Museum comprises a complex of three buildings and outdoor grounds. These include a schoolhouse, a church, and a railroad depot. All three buildings contain historic furnishings and exhibits about the region's past. The different types of buildings provide several historical points of reference for the collection, while the outdoor grounds complement the complex.

The Eddy County Courthouse makes a distinctive architectural statement: a prominent tower rises centrally above the entrance. An octagonal barn built for Sylvanus Marriage was constructed around 1902. It is located five miles south and two miles east of New Rockford, on flat prairie in central North Dakota.

The Old Church Theatre is the Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts' main venue for theatrical productions. Schedules vary; check the scheduled performance dates for your trip.

The Brenner Crossing State Historic Site is near the military road that connected Fort Totten near Devils Lake with Fort Seward near Jamestown. The site is unmarked; there are no visible remains of the road or other archaeological features.

A bridge carries a gravel road north from New Rockford into adjoining farmland.

September Event

The Central North Dakota Steam Threshers Reunion is an annual historical presentation of antique agricultural equipment. It lasts three days and takes place on the third weekend of September at the Eddy County Fairgrounds southwest of New Rockford. Since the exact dates can change from year to year, check the dates for the relevant year before traveling. For hotel planning, the timing is the main consideration: align your stay with the event dates.

Recreation and the Outdoors

All Veteren's Memorial Park has trails throughout the park for walking, running, biking, and driving. Archie & Jessie Campbell Memorial Park has a disc golf course and offers overnight camping; camping may be seasonal.

Northern pike, walleye, and channel catfish are listed as sport fish species at New Rockford Reservoir. Fishing conditions may change. Warsing Dam is one mile northeast of Sheyenne. Warsing Dam Campground has eight basic campsites and five covered areas with picnic tables; seasonal operation may apply.

New Rockford is in the Central Flyway and is also noted for waterfowl hunting. If waterfowl hunting is part of your trip, check current conditions in advance.
