Hammondsport offers connections to wine and local history, aviation, and seasonal activities on the water. When planning your stay, you can consider these topics separately: some places are in the village, while others are just outside it or to the south. This lets you focus your visits according to your interests without treating the different locations as one and the same.

Wine and Local History

The FLX Wine Museum museum complex, also called the Greyton H. Taylor Wine Museum, includes a Replica Cooper Shop, a Wine Museum, and the Walter S. Taylor Art Galley. Visitors can explore these areas. The Cooper Shop Building displays local memorabilia and winemaking equipment from the early days of the Finger Lakes wine industry. Here, you can encounter both objects that evoke the region’s past and equipment from early winemaking.

The Village of Hammondsport Historic District is officially listed as a historic district in New York State. This recognition adds another aspect of local history to the museum and wine connections.

The area’s connection to wine extends beyond the museum collection. Against the backdrop of Hammondsport and Keuka Lake, you can taste, visit, and explore award-winning wineries. Domaine LeSeurre Winery in Hammondsport is also among the wineries that visitors can taste, visit, and explore in this context. Tasting and visiting options vary by winery, so check with them before your visit.

Aviation and Fall Event

The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum is half a mile south of Hammondsport village and features collections on early aviation and regional history. A replica of Curtiss’s 1914 America flying boat, with a wingspan of 72 feet, was completed in early September 2007 by the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum’s restoration workshop. The replica connects a specific aviation reference with a dated restoration project.

The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum and volunteers have held the Seaplane Homecoming on Keuka Lake every fall since 2003. The gathering is also associated with Depot Park in Hammondsport. The fall timing is helpful for planning; specific dates for future events may vary, so it is recommended that you check the dates for the relevant fall.

Getting Around and Seasonal Visits

Hammondsport’s visitor center is located at 47 Shethar Street. An interactive Explore Steuben kiosk there helps visitors plan their trips. Visitor information can change, so confirm it locally before your visit.

Swimming with lifeguards is available at Depot Park in Hammondsport during the summer months. You can ask the Town of Urbana about current lifeguard hours. This distinguishes this seasonal activity from the museum and history topics described as available year-round, without assuming fixed hours.

The Finger Lakes Boating Museum is at 8231 Pleasant Valley Road, just outside Hammondsport village. Its location is therefore a separate point of reference in the destination’s immediate surroundings. Champlin Beach is in the Town of Urbana on Route 54, near the Hammondsport fire station. This location description refers to the beach; it should not be confused with the seasonal swimming opportunity at Depot Park.
