Discover Brockport
Accommodation in Brockport
When planning a stay in Brockport, three specific themes stand out: the historic business district along the Erie Canal, recurring summer events, and recreational opportunities at the Welcome Center. Narrow your hotel search based on whether you are primarily interested in local history, a particular event, or activities on the water. The locations and time frames differ considerably, so you can first decide which focus you want to shape your visit.
Historic Center Along the Erie Canal
Brockport’s Historic Commercial District includes 45 commercial buildings along Main Street and Market Street. The area along Main Street stretches from the Erie Canal to the intersection of State Street and Erie Street. The district is considered the largest contiguous group of Victorian commercial buildings in the area. The Main Street Lift Bridge dates from 1915 and is one of only 16 lift bridges still in operation on the Erie Canal. Its historical significance thus extends from the streetscape to a lift bridge that is still in use.
The Brockport Museum & Library of Local History collects, preserves, and shares the broader heritage and history of the Brockport community. The Morgan-Manning House Museum was founded to preserve and restore the Victorian Morgan Manning House for the benefit of the public. Reconstruction work is underway following a fire in 2025. The two institutions have distinct focuses: the history of the wider community and the preservation of a specific Victorian house.
Market and Summer Cultural Events
The Village of Brockport Farmers’ Market is held each year from the second Sunday in June through the third Sunday in October on Market Street.
The Brockport Arts Festival is held each year on the first full weekend in August, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Serenades Concert Series takes place on Thursday evenings in July at 7 p.m. and in August at 6:30 p.m. at the Brockport Welcome Center, 11 Water Street.
These events differ in timing when planning a trip: the market runs from June through October, the festival is tied to one August weekend, and the concert series takes place on Thursday evenings in July and August. If you are traveling for an event, check the date in that year’s calendar in advance.
Recreation at the Brockport Welcome Center
The Brockport Welcome Center has a free, accessible public kayak launch for paddling on the Erie Canal. The Welcome Center also provides free standard bicycles. The two offerings involve different activities: the kayak launch is specifically for paddling on the canal, while the bicycles provide another option for cyclists.
