If you’re looking for a hotel in Somers Point, local highlights can help you choose what to explore based on your travel interests. The coastal landscape, trails and historic buildings offer concrete points of reference for planning your trip. Consider whether you’re more interested in views of the water, a route for pedestrians and cyclists, or the town’s history.

Water Views and Recreation Along the Shore

From the coastal bluff at Kennedy Park, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Great Egg Harbor River and Great Egg Harbor Bay. Kennedy Park also has a waterfront playground and an area for launching boats and fishing. William Morrow Beach, also known as Somers Point Beach, has a fishing pier. The park combines panoramic views with several recreational features, while the beach has a fishing pier as a specific point of interest. When choosing where to go, you can distinguish between a park with several named uses and a beach with a fishing pier.

Trails in Somers Point and to Ocean City

The Somers Point Bike Path runs the entire length of Somers Point. The Rt. 52 Causeway Walkway & Fishing Piers crosses Shore Road near Somers Mansion and follows a pedestrian and bike path to Ocean City. The two routes offer different points of reference: the Bike Path extends throughout Somers Point, while Ocean City is the destination on the Causeway route. Somers Mansion is near the Shore Road crossing; it is a point of reference along the route, not the named destination. The Causeway route is also described as being for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Somers Mansion and the Historical Museum

Somers Mansion was built by Richard Somers between 1720 and 1726 and is the oldest surviving house in Atlantic County. The Somers Point Historical Museum offers a different connection to the past. The single-story, Colonial wood-frame building was built as the West Jersey Baptist Church in 1886 and now serves as a museum. The two buildings therefore differ both in their construction histories and in their uses: Somers Mansion is significant as the county’s oldest surviving house, while the museum links its former use as a church with its present use as a museum. Together, they offer different ways to explore Somers Point’s history.
