In New Boston, river scenery, trail access, historic sites, and seasonal gathering places offer distinct reasons to visit. The Piscataquog River winds through town, offering scenic spots to relax and enjoy the surroundings. For planning your trip, it helps to know that these attractions have different schedules: the New Boston Trail is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, while the market and events have specific seasonal or scheduled dates. The Historical Society also has set opening hours. You can plan your stay around whether you want to focus on the scenery, local history, or a particular event.

River and Local History

The Piscataquog River winds through New Boston, offering scenic spots to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The Molly Stark Cannon, on display at the New Boston Historical Society, is part of the town’s history. It is fired three times every year on July 4 as part of an all-day celebration that has been a New Boston tradition for more than 82 years.

The New Boston Historical Society building and museum are open to the public every Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., as well as after the bimonthly evening meetings. Check these hours again before your trip. New Boston’s cemetery sits on a hill and has been the town’s principal burial ground for 250 years. It offers another historic site to visit alongside the Molly Stark Cannon.

Events and Farmers’ Market

The Recreation Department hosts summer concerts on the Town Common, as well as a movie night on the ball field at Town Hall. The events are held at different locations. As schedules can change, check the dates before your trip.

The New Boston Farmers’ Market is held on Saturdays from June through October, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Town Common. Items for sale include vegetables, fruit, flowers and plants, dairy products, maple products, baked goods, meat, honey, jams and jellies, soap, fiber products, and jewelry. The selection extends beyond food to include soap, fiber products, and jewelry. For a market visit, the seasonal window is just as important as the day of the week and the time.
