A stay in Earth City is best explored through trails along the Missouri River, nearby Riverwoods Park, and occasional sporting events. For your planning, it’s worth considering your destination and travel dates together: the Earth City Levee Greenway has an access point in Riverwoods Park, while a separate pedestrian and bicycle path on the Highway 370 bridge has time restrictions. If you’re looking for hotels in Earth City, you can first decide whether a trip on the Greenway or an event is the main reason for your visit.

Trails and connections

The Earth City Levee Greenway leads to a parking lot just beyond the Highway 370 bridge. Access is from a trailhead in Riverwoods Park near the intersection of Earth City Parkway (Highway 141) and St. Charles Rock Road. The trailhead and the parking lot at the Greenway’s end are useful reference points for finding your way.

Two types of restrictions should be distinguished. The middle section of the Riverwoods Trail along the Missouri River is permanently closed due to multiple flooding events. This is separate from the bridge connection to the KATY Trail. At Highway 370, the Greenway connects to the KATY Trail via a separate pedestrian and bicycle path over the Missouri River. The path runs along the westbound roadway of the bridge. A notice published on December 1, 2025, announced that this path was scheduled to remain closed from December 2025 through December 2027. Check conditions before your trip and take this notice into account when planning your route.

Riverwoods Park and landscape

Nearby Riverwoods Park and Trail covers 136 acres. The Earth City Levee bounds it to the east, and the Missouri River to the west. The Missouri River and the wet woodland areas in Riverwoods Park attract a wide variety of wildlife. These features give the park a distinctive natural character: the Greenway focuses on access and route connections, while the park offers distinctive landscapes and wildlife. When planning, you can choose between focusing on the route and spending time in nature.

Routes in the wider area

In the wider region, the American Discovery Trail follows 158 miles of the Katy Trail State Park, from the Highway 370 bridge crossing over the Missouri River near St. Charles to Boonville. Another connection is available after crossing the Missouri River: the Boschert Greenway then connects directly to the Missouri Greenway: Earth City Levee. These two route references serve different purposes for navigation: the American Discovery Trail describes a long route with named endpoints, while the second identifies a direct connection between two greenways. When planning, it’s therefore helpful to distinguish the regional route from the specific access points of the Earth City Levee Greenway.

Sporting events

A sporting event can also be a reason to visit. Lou Fusz Football hosts its annual Friday Night Lights camp at its indoor facility in Earth City. Its annual return doesn’t give a specific date for your trip: check the camp dates before planning to attend. When looking for a hotel, you can align your travel dates with the actual event date.
