Harrisonville has historic landmarks at the Square and in its museum, as well as parks, trails and recreational facilities with a variety of offerings. The market, tours and events also bring seasonal or weekly time slots into your travel plans.

Harrisonville Square and Its History

The Harrisonville Courthouse Square Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. It comprises 37 buildings, 34 of which contribute to the district’s historic architectural character and historical significance. The Cass County Courthouse stands in Historic Harrisonville Square. It was the county’s third courthouse and was completed in 1897. The brick streets in Historic Harrisonville Square were laid in 1913 with bricks made by the Harrisonville Brick & Tile Company. The World War Doughboy Monument on the Square commemorates the sacrifices made by Cass County soldiers in World War I.

Museum and Early Settlement

The Burnt District Museum presents Harrisonville’s history from the city’s founding. It is located in the Cass County Public Library and displays artifacts recovered throughout Cass County, including a 19th-century loom and a washing machine from the 1920s. The museum is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Check access information before visiting, as opening hours may change.

The Sharp-Hopper Cabin is an example of the homestead of early settlers in the area that later became Cass County, Missouri. It can be visited free of charge on guided tours from April through October. Contact the Cass County Historical Society in advance to confirm the date and tour arrangements.

Parks, Trails and Recreation

At 275 acres, City Park is the largest park in Harrisonville. The Omega Trail there offers about four miles of hiking and fitness trails. City Park is also home to Harrisonville Golf Club, which has a public nine-hole course with sand greens. Hiking and exercising on the trail, or playing a round on the golf course, are different ways to spend time outdoors.

Lord’s Park has a disc golf course. The Floyd and Franceline Parris Community Trail in Harrisonville comprises two loop trails through a natural setting, each a quarter mile long. These distances clearly distinguish the two trails: the Omega Trail offers about four miles, while the Parris Community Trail has two quarter-mile loops. Marler Wirt Allen Park contains a memorial stone.

Another recreational option is the indoor pool at the Harrisonville Community Center. The pool is 25 yards long and has six lanes. These amenities differ in both type and size, ranging from trails and disc golf to a golf course and swimming pool.

Planning for the Market and Events

Every year on Veterans’ Day, scouting groups hold a ceremony at Veterans Park. The Harrisonville Farmers & Artists Market is located at historic Harrisonville Square. From June through September, it is open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Check the market date before traveling.

The Annual Log Cabin Festival takes place at Harrisonville Square and in the surrounding area. Dates and arrangements may change from year to year, so coordinate your plans with the event dates. The time frames vary: cabin tours run from April through October, the market runs from June through September on Saturday mornings, and festival dates should be checked each year.
