In Long Prairie, cultural history, a range of park offerings, and a drive-in theater appeal to different travel interests. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether historic homes and county history, outdoor activities, or a movie night matter most to you. The locations differ not only in theme, but also in their specific offerings.

Homes and the History of Todd County

The Christie Home Museum building was constructed in 1901 in the Queen Anne style. Original furnishings and artifacts from the Christie family are displayed in the house. In 2006, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The two dates have different significance: 1901 marks the construction, and 2006 its addition to the register. Thus, the house’s construction history and its later historic recognition sit alongside the objects that establish its connection to the Christie family. Visitors interested in architecture will find the Queen Anne style to be the building’s defining feature; the collection complements it with the family’s history. On June 6, 2026, “Carriages and Cars” was also scheduled during Prairie Days; several vintage cars and carriages were to be on display on the lawn of the Christie Home.

The Todd County Museum focuses on the county’s history and serves as a research and educational center. The museum includes an old one-room schoolhouse. Long Prairie was the first settlement of white settlers in the area that later became Todd County. This local history expands the focus from an individual family to the development of the county. The Todd County Museum carries Kroll family maple syrup in its gift shop.

Parks with Different Offerings

Lake Charlotte Park is the largest park in Long Prairie and offers the greatest variety of activities among the city’s parks. Specifically mentioned amenities include a swimming beach and a disc golf course. Swimming and disc golf provide two different ways to spend time outdoors, both in the same park.

Harmony Park has walking paths. In winter, ice skating is possible on the pond when weather conditions permit. The season and weather conditions are therefore part of planning this activity.

Riverside Park has a historic walking trail with WPA ruins. It also offers river access for fishing and nature observation. Riverside Park therefore combines history and river activities, while Lake Charlotte offers a swimming beach and disc golf, and Harmony Park has walking paths and weather-dependent ice skating.

Movies and Events

The Long Drive-In shows movies rain or shine. Its event lineup also includes a Classic Car Cruise. This adds an option beyond the museums and parks. If you’re planning a movie night or the cruise during your stay, check current showtimes and event dates in advance.
