Milaca offers several distinct reasons to visit that you can take into account when planning your trip: an annual trail run, a trail system along the Rum River, other sports activities, and a museum devoted to local and regional history. If you’re looking for a hotel, start by asking what you’d like to focus on: should your trip coincide with an event, mainly involve outdoor activities, or also leave room for history? The offerings differ in their connection to event dates, the season, and the type of activity.

Trail Running and Milaca Trails

Runnin' in the Ruff is an annual trail run along the Rum River. Choose between a 2-mile distance for running or walking and a 10-kilometer distance. If the race is the reason for your trip, check the dates of the event before planning your stay around it.

The Milaca Trails offer a different focus: a 12-mile system of singletrack and doubletrack trails through 200 acres of woodland, hills, and meadow along the Rum River. The trails are open to biking, hiking, running, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. About five miles of the trails are groomed seasonally for winter activities. If you’re planning your trip around a winter activity, take this seasonal grooming into account. The annual event date is the key travel consideration for the trail run; on the trails, the focus is on the permitted activities and a section that is groomed seasonally.

Archery and Disc Golf

The Milaca Archery Range has 18 covered shooting stations, including three broadhead shooting pits. Its 3D course features 14 different targets. The range is open from April through October, from sunrise to sunset. Take these seasonal and daily opening hours into account when planning your visit. The shooting stations and 3D course are two distinct features of the facility: the stations include the broadhead shooting pits, while the course is described by its own number of targets.

The Milaca Disc Golf Course has 18 holes, several of which run along the Rum River. The Rec Park is also located on the banks of the Rum River. This means you’ll encounter the river at the trails, along several disc golf holes, and at the park. Disc golf here combines a round with a clearly stated number of holes with an explicit connection to the river.

Local History at the Milaca Museum

For a cultural focus, the Milaca Area Historical Society shares the history of Milaca and the surrounding communities and townships through museum exhibits and a research library at the Milaca Museum. The Society’s collection includes more than 12,000 objects and records. Its scope therefore extends beyond Milaca, while the exhibits and research library offer two distinct ways to explore local and regional history.
