When choosing a hotel in Pratt, your travel interests may be the deciding factor: wildlife and parkland sit alongside museums, historic military buildings, sports and seasonal events. The differences below can help you decide what to focus on during your stay—from aquariums and tree species to exhibits, tournaments and film screenings.

Wildlife and Parks in Pratt

The Pratt Education Center and Museum cares for more than 100 live animals. Exhibits include twelve aquariums, each with a capacity of 400 to 600 gallons. Admission is free. If you plan a visit, check the opening hours in advance. This lets you plan your stay around the animal center without assuming a particular visiting time.

Lemon Park offers a different focus: at approximately 117 acres, it is the largest park in Pratt; today, it has approximately 80 tree species. Its size and variety of trees offer two distinct points of interest for anyone curious about a destination’s landscape. Another park with a sports focus is Mae Dennis Park, which has a disc golf course.

Museums and History

The Pratt County Historical Museum is housed in a 24,000-square-foot building. Inside the museum, the North Gallery and Main Street Boardwalk feature shops from the 19th century. The pioneer-era exhibits include reconstructed early-20th-century storefronts, antique farm equipment, artifacts from Indigenous American communities and military memorabilia. The exhibits also include an authentic one-room schoolhouse. The museum’s collections bring together a range of subjects and periods.

Military history is also connected to two World War II buildings. The Norden Bombsight Storage Vaults at Pratt Army Airfield were built between 1942 and 1943 to store, maintain and issue Norden bombsights. The Parachute Building at Pratt Army Air Field was built in 1942–1943 for parachute inspection, packing and repair. The buildings’ original purposes differed: one was for bombsights, the other for parachutes.

The Vernon Filley Art Museum provides access to art through exhibitions and educational programs. Together with the historical collections at the Pratt County Historical Museum, it adds an arts and culture focus to the nature- and sports-related aspects of a stay.

Sports and Events

Pratt offers several different options for sports enthusiasts. The Walter Blake Tennis Complex has ten lighted tennis courts and two pickleball courts. The Green Sports Complex hosts numerous tournaments; tournament activity may vary depending on the schedule. If a particular competition is important to your trip, check the relevant dates in advance.

The events calendar may also play a role in planning when to visit. The Barron Theater screens first-run films, religious films and classics every weekend. Since the schedule lists specific screenings, it is a good idea to check it before your visit. Lemon Park Lights is an annual activity during the holiday season in Pratt. If you are planning a trip around this event, check the dates for your preferred travel period.

For trip planning, these options differ mainly in their timing: wildlife, parkland and museum collections offer thematic points of interest, while tournaments, film screenings and the holiday activity are more closely tied to specific dates. So first consider whether you are choosing Pratt for its museums and parks or with sports and events in mind.
